North East Link will fix the missing link in Melbourne's freeway network with new 6.5 km tunnels from Watsonia to Bulleen. We're also overhauling the Eastern Freeway and completing the M80 Ring Road at Greensborough.

Job description:

VIDA Roads

VPS 5 Senior Ecology Advisor

• Hybrid working environment.

• 3 years fixed term, VPS 5 ($116,413-$140,849) + super & benefits.

• This role will be located at 180 Lonsdale St, Melbourne CBD.

Join us in building better connections for Victoria by:

• Providing authoritative and timely advice on environmental (biodiversity) legislation and regulatory requirements to satisfy planning approvals and compliance for VIDA Roads projects and assist with obtaining secondary consents, preparation and implementation of management plans, and compliance and reporting requirements.
• Working collaboratively with VIDA Roads colleagues, consultants, contractors, and stakeholders to assist progression of project requirements and resolve complex environmental, planning and approval issues.
• Performing key actions required under VIDA Roads' environmental management system including provision of high quality, timely and accurate review and advice on relevant environment documentation for VIDA Roads projects.
• Supporting environmental compliance activities, monitoring programs and databases relating to biodiversity matters - including project compliance with relevant State and Federal environmental legislative obligations.
• Developing strong relationships and liaising closely with the contractors, relevant state and federal regulators (e.g. DEECA and National EPA), municipal councils, local environment interest groups, and other stakeholders where required.

The successful candidate provides expertise and support on ecology and environment issues impacting the planning and delivery of VIDA Roads projects. They will contribute to the development of guidance, systems, training, and other initiatives to support compliance with environmental regulatory requirements and create positive environmental and biodiversity outcomes on VIDA Roads projects.

About You

• You bring practical ecology and regulatory experience to complex planning, approvals and compliance matters, helping VIDA Roads deliver major transport projects with strong environmental and biodiversity outcomes.
• You work well with colleagues, consultants, contractors, and regulators, building trust and turning technical advice into clear, timely action.
• You are adaptable, curious and delivery-focused, with the confidence to solve problems, share knowledge and contribute to better systems, guidance and ways of working.

This opportunity is a 3-year fixed-term.

It will be a requirement to travel and spend time at one or all our site offices.
