Fremantle Shipwrights is located in Australia’s largest sailing club in Fremantle, Western Australia. We provide high-quality workmanship across all boating needs. Our work is varied from old timber plankers to new super yachts, combining high-quality workmanship and technical skills to all jobs - boat repairs, refurbishments or maintenance.

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and reliable Shipwright to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the repair, restoration, and maintenance of vessels ensuring all work is completed to a high standard of craftsmanship, safety, and quality.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong practical skills, marine industry experience, and a passion for boat repairs.

Key Responsibilities

• Build, assemble, repair, and refit fiberglass and wooden boats.

• Ability to colour match and repair gelcoat damage.

• Carry out hull, deck, framing, and structural repairs

• Install and repair fittings, fixtures, and marine components

• Inspect vessels for damage, wear, and maintenance needs

• Use hand tools, power tools, and woodworking/joinery equipment safely and effectively

• Ensure all work complies with marine safety and quality standards

• Work collaboratively with other trades, contractors, and team members

• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Shipwright, Boatbuilder, or in a similar marine construction/repair role

• Strong knowledge of boatbuilding materials, methods, and repair techniques

• Experience using a wide range of tools and workshop equipment

• Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Understanding of workplace health and safety requirements

• Physically fit and capable of manual work in a marine environment

Desirable Qualifications

• Trade qualification in Shipwrighting or Boatbuilding

• Experience with vessel restoration and refit projects

• Knowledge of fiberglass, timber, and marine finishing techniques

• Driver’s license and own transport

• Have you own tools
