Head Chef

About the role

The Hobart Workers Club is seeking an experienced and passionate Head Chef to lead our kitchen team and take ownership of our food offering. This is a hands-on leadership role, with approximately 70% operational and 30% administrative responsibilities, requiring a minimum of four operational shifts per week. Flexibility to work nights, weekends and public holidays is essential.

Key responsibilities

• Leading, mentoring and developing the kitchen team.
• Overseeing daily kitchen operations and food service.
• Menu development, food costing and maintaining quality and consistency.
• Managing stock, purchasing and kitchen expenses.
• Preparing rosters while maintaining appropriate wage costs.
• Maintaining high standards of food safety, hygiene and WHS compliance.
• Working closely with the General Manager and management team.
• Identifying opportunities to grow food sales and improve the customer experience.

About you

• Proven experience leading a kitchen brigade.
• Strong communication and people-management skills.
• A passion for quality food and hospitality.
• Experience with menu development, food costing and stock control.
• Strong knowledge of food safety and relevant hospitality legislation.
• A proactive, hands-on approach and commitment to developing a positive team culture.
• Food Safety Supervisor (FSS).
• Hands on POS Systems.
• Desirable: Certificate IV and/or minimum five years' experience in a similar role.
