About the role
You will use your practical building and maintenance knowledge to inspect Queensland Government assets across Mt Isa, identify defects and assess the condition of buildings and associated services. You will draw on your trade background to understand the likely cause of issues, assess risk and recommend appropriate rectification.
You will undertake inspections and translate your findings into clear, practical documentation, including condition assessments, maintenance reports and scopes of work. You will need to recognise issues across building fabric and services, while understanding when specialist technical advice is required.
This is a [contract/temporary] opportunity based in Mt Isa, with [travel requirements/working conditions]. You will work across a range of government buildings and facilities, playing an important role in supporting effective maintenance planning and asset management across the region.
Key Responsibilities
Inspect buildings and assess the condition of building assets - Identify defects across roofs, walls, ceilings, floors and external structures - Assess doors, windows, waterproofing, drainage and other building elements - Identify and report issues with electrical, plumbing, HVAC and fire services - Determine likely causes, risks and appropriate rectification requirements - Develop clear scopes of work and practical maintenance recommendations - Prepare inspection reports, condition assessments and maintenance documentation - Record findings and support maintenance planning and prioritisation - Recognise when specialist advice or licensed trades are required - Work safely around potential asbestos-containing materials
About you
Trade-qualified background in carpentry, building or maintenance - Strong practical understanding of building defects and maintenance - Proven experience conducting inspections or condition assessments - Ability to identify defects and understand their likely causes and risks - Strong report writing and documentation capabilities - Experience developing scopes of work or maintenance recommendations - Broad understanding of building services and when specialist input is needed - Current General Construction Induction Training Card (White Card) - Asbestos awareness or relevant non-friable asbestos training is desirable
