About the role
Owing to its relative depth (approximately 60 metres below surface), Iluka has spent decades developing a novel, remotely operated, underground mining (UGM) technology. This mining method is now in operation at the Balranald Mine. This mining method is truly innovative!
Iluka’s UGM technology is akin to keyhole surgery for the mining of critical minerals. It utilises directional drills to access to ore bodies previously thought uneconomic, with marked reductions in both environmental disturbance and carbon intensity relative to traditional mining techniques.

The Mining Engineer will provide technical expertise on practical mining solutions to ensure the ongoing efficient delivery of the Balranald mining operation objectives. This position is responsible for communicating, maintaining, and integrating the consolidated mining extraction, backfill, tailings, and rehabilitation plans for the mine site.
Key responsibilities include input into daily production and development activities to ensure management of the short- and medium-term mine plan. Daily and weekly data recording and entry will provide information and direction on mine plans, backfill progress, tailings planning, rehabilitation, and material movements. Resilience and the ability to perform under pressure will be key in this dynamic environment!
Your responsibilities will include:
Provide short and medium term production planning expertise for the mine including schedules for mining development and extraction the drills
Deliver monthly, quarterly and yearly reports
Effectively communicate mine plans to internal stakeholders and contractors
Manage a rolling schedule to ensure production outcomes are achieved
Develop plans for topsoil and overburden stripping, tailings injection and management and rehabilitation
About you
Tertiary degree in mining, oil & gas or construction related discipline
Strong short and medium term production planning, execution and rehabilitation knowledge
Experience with mine planning software
Self-motivated and high level aof attention to detail

You can choose to reside locally, drive-in drive-out from towns within the regional area, or fly-in fly-out from Melbourne. For South Australian residents we will mobilise you via road transport from our Iluka office in Adelaide.
