Company Description Somali Women's Healthcare Community is a community-focused organization dedicated to improving health outcomes and access to care for Somali women and their families. Based in Melbourne, VIC, the organization works in partnership with local health providers, community leaders, and support services to promote culturally safe and inclusive healthcare. It focuses on health education, advocacy, and practical support to help community members navigate health systems with confidence. Volunteers play a key role in building trust, sharing information, and ensuring services are responsive to the needs of the Somali community.Role Description This is a part-time, on-site Volunteer role located in Melbourne, VIC. Volunteers will support community members by helping them access health services, assisting with appointment scheduling, and guiding them through clinic or hospital visits where needed. Day-to-day tasks may include providing information about available health resources, supporting health education sessions, preparing and distributing printed or digital materials, and assisting with administrative tasks such as data entry and record-keeping. Volunteers may also help organize community events, workshops, and outreach activities, and provide general reception support such as greeting visitors and directing inquiries. The role involves close collaboration with staff, other volunteers, and community members in a respectful, culturally sensitive manner.Qualifications Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds; strong interpersonal skills and a community-minded attitude.Interest in women's health, community health, or social services; willingness to learn about Somali culture and healthcare needs.Basic administrative skills such as organizing information, handling simple documentation, and using email and office software.Reliability, punctuality, and the ability to follow guidance from supervisors while working both independently and as part of a team.Fluency in Somali or another relevant community language is highly valued but not required; prior experience in volunteering or community work is an advantage.Ability to maintain confidentiality, uphold professional boundaries, and comply with organizational policies and procedures; willingness to complete any required screenings or checks.
