Customer Service Officer

The Eastern Waste Management Authority (trading as East Waste) is a regional subsidiary of the Adelaide Hills Council, City of Burnside, Campbelltown City Council, City of Mitcham, City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters, City of Prospect, City of Unley and the Corporation of the Town of Walkerville.

East Waste’s primary purpose is to provide efficient waste collection services on behalf of its Constituent Councils.  East Waste is governed by a Board of Directors and is administered in accordance with the Local Government Act, the Authority’s Charter, and various policies and codes.

About the role

East Waste is seeking a suitably experienced Customer Service Officer to join a collaborative, small team environment in a permanent part-time capacity.

As a Customer Service Officer, you play a critical role in supporting East Waste to deliver high-quality services and maintain its strong reputation within the waste management industry. This position serves as the first point of contact for Constituent Councils, their residents, contractors, and other stakeholders and provides an opportunity to positively influence and enhance the customer experience.

The position requires a customer-focused and adaptable individual with strong problem-solving capabilities to assist customers efficiently, particularly during periods of high call volumes. Well-developed verbal and written communication skills are essential to effectively respond to enquiries and contribute to achieving East Waste’s vision of being the leading waste logistics company in Australia.

About You

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.

• Strong administrative and organisational skills, including demonstrated proficiency across the Microsoft Office suite.

• Professional and confident telephone manner.

• Proven problem solving, de-escalation and conflict resolution skills.

• Strong time management skills, with the ability to prioritise competing tasks and meet deadlines.

• Sound judgement and decision-making skills, with the ability to assess situations and take appropriate action.

• A positive, proactive ‘can-do’ attitude and willingness to take initiative.

• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively as part of a team.

• High level of attention to detail, accuracy, and quality in all aspects of work.

 Prerequisites

• Minimum two (2) years’ experience in a customer service or related role.

• Willingness to obtain a National Police Clearance (facilitated by East Waste).

• Willingness to undertake a pre-employment medical (facilitated by East Waste).

• Adherence to random drug & alcohol testing.

Desirable Selection Criteria

• Local Government experience and/or knowledge.

• Knowledge of working within a statutory framework.
