This is an Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander identified position which is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.

The Aboriginal Legal Service (ALS) was established in a critical act of self-determination over 50 years ago as part of the Aboriginal rights protest movement. We provide high-quality, culturally safe legal and support services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people throughout NSW and the ACT, and fight for social justice and equity for our communities.
  
Your Impact:
As a valued member of the Care & Protection/Family Law Practice, you'll walk alongside community members, delivering culturally safe, holistic social work that empowers families, strengthens community, and supports positive legal and social outcomes. Each day, you will:

• Deliver culturally safe, trauma-informed support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members.
• Conduct psychosocial assessments, case management, risk assessments, and safety planning.
• Advocate for clients and provide support throughout Care & Protection, Family Law, and court proceedings.
• Coordinate holistic, wraparound services with health, housing, and community partners.
• Prepare professional reports and work collaboratively to achieve positive client outcomes.
• Build strong community connections while upholding ethical practice and cultural safety.

• Be a proud Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, recognised by your community.
• Hold a Bachelor of Social Work (or equivalent AASW-recognised qualification) and meet eligibility requirements for professional membership.
• Demonstrated experience in social work practice, including case management, psychosocial assessment, risk assessment, and supporting clients with complex needs.
• Strong knowledge and application of trauma-informed, culturally safe, and strengths-based practice within child protection, family law, and domestic and family violence contexts.
• Highly developed communication, advocacy, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to prepare court-ready reports and collaborate within multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to manage competing priorities, work autonomously, maintain accurate records, and travel as required to support community-based service delivery.
