The Opportunity 

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our software engineering capability. 

Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you willl be responsible for building and developing a high-performing engineering team while providing technical leadership across software delivery, cloud platforms, reliability engineering, security and operational excellence. 

This is a hands-on leadership role that combines people leadership, technology leadership and delivery accountability. You will work closely with Product, Data, Technology Operations and business stakeholders to deliver high-quality technology outcomes while continuing to mature engineering practices across the organisation. 

What you will be working on:

Engineering Leadership 

• Build, mentor and develop a high-performing engineering team 

• Lead recruitment, coaching and career development initiatives 

• Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement 

• Establish engineering standards, ways of working and best practices 

• Promote technical excellence through mentoring, reviews and knowledge sharing 

Software Engineering & Delivery 

• Lead the delivery of business-critical software solutions and digital products 

• Support architecture and solution-design activities 

• Drive engineering quality, testing, automation and maintainability 

• Improve delivery processes and engineering effectiveness 

• Partner with Product and business stakeholders to deliver measurable outcomes 

Cloud, Platform & Reliability 

• Lead engineering practices across cloud-native and modern application environments 

• Drive platform scalability, resilience and operational maturity 

• Improve observability, monitoring, deployment and incident management practices 

• Champion automation and modern infrastructure approaches 

• Ensure engineering solutions are secure, maintainable and reliable 

Security & Operational Excellence 

• Promote secure-by-design engineering practices 

• Support vulnerability management, resilience and risk mitigation activities 

• Drive continuous improvement in operational processes and governance 

• Ensure quality, reliability and security are embedded into software delivery 

• Collaborate with Technology Operations and Security teams to maintain strong operational standards 

AI & Modern Engineering Practices 

• Leverage AI-assisted engineering tools to improve productivity and quality 

• Encourage innovation and adoption of modern engineering practices 

• Support continuous learning and professional development across the team 

• Drive pragmatic use of automation and emerging technologies 

• Balance innovation with governance, security and maintainability 

About You:

Essential 

• Solid experience in software engineering, platform engineering, DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering or related disciplines 

• Proven experience leading software engineering teams 

• Strong background in modern software architecture and engineering practices 

• Experience delivering scalable, secure and reliable software platforms 

• Strong understanding of cloud platforms and modern software delivery approaches 

• Experience with automation, CI/CD and engineering productivity improvements 

• Demonstrated ability to mentor, coach and develop engineers 

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills 

• Strong problem-solving and decision-making capability 

Highly Desirable 

• Experience leading engineering teams through periods of growth and transformation 

• Experience with cloud infrastructure, infrastructure-as-code and modern platform engineering approaches 

• Experience with security, reliability and operational excellence practices 

• Experience with AI-assisted software development and engineering automation 

• Experience building and scaling engineering capability within complex organisations 

• Experience working in customer-focused or operationally critical environments
