What you'll be doing
To provide advanced and complex patient care within their area of specialty that reflect current standards of nursing practices and Mid North Coast Local Health District policies and procedures. Mid North Coast Integrated Mental Health Alcohol and Other Drugs (IMHAOD) will implement a new Emergency Mental Health & Addiction Assessment Team (EMHAART) service that provides safe and easily accessible pathways aimed at improving consumer outcomes and experiences.
The service will provide consultation triage, assessments, and referral services to the appropriate mental health or substance use disorders (SUD) services for the people of MNCLHD across their lifespan. MNCLHD has a wide distribution of consumers that have challenges accessing services resulting in the need to refine and centralise ‘front-end’ 24/7 referral, access, and entry pathways as a priority to IMHAOD services.
This position will undertake assessment and management of MHAOD presentations to ED and when appropriate provide consultation and assessment to emergency services through a virtual care platform and through other modes of communication.
About You
You are a highly experienced Mental Health Nurse with current registration through the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, supported by relevant postgraduate qualifications and extensive clinical experience in the specialty area of mental health. You bring advanced assessment skills and a comprehensive understanding of complex mental health presentations, enabling you to deliver safe, evidence-based care and support positive outcomes for consumers across a range of clinical settings.
You are a confident and capable clinician who works effectively both independently and as part of multidisciplinary teams, building strong collaborative relationships to provide coordinated, recovery-oriented care. Your leadership skills are demonstrated through your ability to mentor, coach, and support nursing staff, fostering professional growth, clinical excellence, and the delivery of high-quality mental health services.
Passionate about continuous improvement, you have a proven ability to lead and implement initiatives that enhance service delivery, strengthen clinical practice, and improve patient outcomes. You are recognised for your expert mental health knowledge, sound clinical judgement, and ability to respond effectively to complex and evolving situations within a demanding healthcare environment.
Your well-developed communication skills, combined with proficiency in clinical information systems and digital technologies, enable you to communicate effectively with consumers, families, carers, and healthcare professionals while maintaining accurate and comprehensive documentation. Flexible and adaptable, you are committed to supporting service needs through participation in a seven-day rotating roster, including night duty and public holidays, and are willing to travel as required with a current NSW Driver Licence.
