The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Control Systems Engineer to join our Thornton, NSW team. Reporting to the Automation Manager, you will help deliver reliable control systems engineering outcomes across industrial, mining, construction and utilities projects.

This is a hands-on senior role covering control systems development, testing, commissioning and technical support. You will work across PLC, HMI, SCADA, variable speed drives and related electrical, control, monitoring and safety equipment, ensuring NEPEAN Power products are fit for purpose, accurately documented and delivered to a high standard.

 Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, configure, test and commission PLC, HMI, SCADA, variable speed drive and related control, monitoring and safety systems.
• Support new builds, equipment overhauls, workshop testing and site commissioning for NEPEAN Power products.
• Manage engineering deliverables, project progress, labour allocation and job cost inputs within your scope.
• Prepare, review and maintain engineering design, test and commissioning documentation.
• Peer review automation software and contribute to design reviews, RDAs, HAZOPs and project meetings.
• Provide technical support, mentoring and guidance to engineers, technicians, customers and internal stakeholders.
• Drive safe, quality-focused outcomes while contributing to standardisation, continuous improvement and engineering systems.

About You

You are an experienced control systems, automation or electrical engineering professional who enjoys solving technical problems, working with customers and mentoring others. You are practical, organised and confident balancing design, commissioning, documentation and stakeholder support in a fast-paced environment.

 Skills & Experience

• Electrical trade and/or tertiary qualification in Electrical, Automation, Control Systems or a related discipline.
• Experience in industrial automation, including software development, commissioning, testing and fault finding.
• Strong capability with PLC, HMI, SCADA, variable speed drives and related control systems; Rockwell, Citect and ABB experience highly regarded.
• Sound engineering documentation, customer support and technical problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication, organisation and time management skills, with a safety-first, quality-focused approach.
• Ability to mentor and support engineers, technicians and automation team members.
