Bakery assistant/ cake decorator

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated and creative Bakery Assistant/Cake Decorator to join the team at Tanunda Bakery in Tanunda, SA 5352. This is a part-time position offering flexibility whilst contributing to our commitment to producing high-quality baked goods and beautifully decorated cakes. In this role, you will work alongside our experienced bakers and pastry chefs, supporting daily bakery operations whilst developing your decorating skills. You will be instrumental in maintaining the standards our customers expect from our bakery.

Key responsibilities

• Assisting with the preparation and production of baked goods, including breads, pastries, and cakes

• Decorating cakes and pastries to meet design specifications and quality standards

• Preparing ingredients, measuring components, and ensuring proper stock levels in the bakery

• Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards throughout the bakery workspace

• Operating bakery equipment safely and responsibly under supervision

• Packaging and presenting finished products according to company standards

• Supporting the team during busy periods and special orders

• Following recipes and decorating techniques as demonstrated by senior staff members

What we're looking for

• A genuine passion for baking and cake decoration

• Strong attention to detail and an eye for aesthetics and presentation

• Ability to work flexibly as part of a small team in a fast-paced environment

• Basic understanding of food safety and hygiene practices

• Good time management and organisational skills

• Willingness to learn and take direction from experienced bakers

• Physical fitness for standing for extended periods and lifting moderate weights

• Previous experience in a bakery or hospitality setting is desirable but not essential for candidates with demonstrated enthusiasm

• Relevant qualifications or formal training in baking or pastry decoration would be an advantage
