About the role
Role Description The Heritage Advisor is a full-time, on-site role based in Port Melbourne, VIC. The position is responsible for providing expert advice on heritage management, conducting assessments of archaeological and cultural heritage sites, and preparing clear, accurate documentation and reports. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing development proposals for heritage impacts, coordinating and supporting field investigations, and liaising with clients, regulatory authorities, and community stakeholders to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and best-practice standards. The Heritage Advisor will also contribute to heritage conservation strategies, maintain project records, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate heritage considerations into project planning and delivery.Qualifications Demonstrated experience in heritage advisory, archaeology, or cultural heritage management, including site assessments and reporting.Strong knowledge of relevant heritage legislation, planning frameworks, and industry standards applicable in Victoria and Australia.Proficiency in research, analysis, and documentation, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear recommendations.Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to work with clients, government agencies, Traditional Owners, and community groups.Project coordination abilities, including time management, organization, and attention to detail across multiple concurrent projects.Capability to work safely and effectively in field environments, including participation in archaeological surveys and site inspections.Relevant tertiary qualification in archaeology, heritage conservation, history, anthropology, or a related discipline.Experience with GIS or spatial data tools, and standard office software, is highly regarded.Commitment to ethical practice, inclusive collaboration, and the respectful treatment of cultural heritage.
