About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Site H&S Rep to support the installation of tunnel ventilation systems.
Acting as site H&S rep across 3 station construction sites, you’ll provide to the construction team an independent oversight, knowledge center, and a client point of contact.
You will be working across 3 underground stations.
Duties & Responsibilities
Site WHS Management
Promote and maintain a strong WHS culture across all site activities.
Conduct regular site inspections and proactively identify hazards and unsafe conditions.
Monitor compliance with the project's WHS management plan, procedures and client requirements.
Provide practical WHS advice to the Project Manager, Site Supervisors, engineers and subcontractors.
Challenge unsafe work practices and intervene where immediate action is required.
Risk Management & Planning
Review and provide input into SWMS, JHAs, risk assessments and method statements prior to commencement of works.
Identify high-risk activities associated with the installation of tunnel ventilation equipment and ensure appropriate controls are implemented.
Participate in pre-starts, toolbox talks and task-specific risk reviews.
Monitor changes to work activities and ensure risks are reassessed when site conditions or methodologies change.
Verify that control measures remain effective throughout the works.
Mechanical Installation Safety
Monitor safe execution of installation activities including:
ventilation fans and associated equipment
ductwork and supports
dampers and attenuators
access platforms and walkways
mechanical plant and lifting operations
electrical/mechanical equipment installation
Ensure appropriate controls are implemented for manual handling, pinch/crush points, suspended loads, dropped objects and temporary works.
Underground / Station Environment
Monitor hazards associated with working in underground environments.
Ensure appropriate controls for access/egress, ventilation, emergency response, lighting, communications and interaction with other contractors.
Monitor housekeeping and maintenance of safe access routes.
Coordinate with the principal contractor and other work packages where activities interface.
Working at Heights & Lifting
Monitor compliance with working-at-height requirements, including scaffolds, EWPs, ladders and temporary platforms.
Verify lifting plans, exclusion zones and controls for cranes, hoists and other lifting equipment.
Monitor rigging and dogging activities and ensure suspended-load controls are maintained.
Identify and control dropped-object risks.
Electrical / Commissioning Safety
Monitor electrical safety and isolation/LOTO requirements during installation, testing and commissioning.
Ensure appropriate controls are in place for energisation and commissioning activities.
Participate in commissioning risk assessments and permit-to-work processes.
Coordinate WHS requirements associated with mechanical and electrical interfaces.
Bluecollar Subcontractor Management
Monitor subcontractor compliance with project WHS requirements.
Review subcontractor documentation and ensure workers are appropriately inducted and competent for their tasks.
Participate in subcontractor pre-starts and coordination meetings.
Follow up corrective actions and ensure close-out within agreed timeframes.
Escalate persistent or serious non-compliance to the Project Manager.
Incident & Emergency Management
Assist with investigation of incidents, near misses and hazards.
Ensure incidents are reported, investigated and corrective actions implemented.
Participate in emergency response planning and drills.
Maintain awareness of emergency access, evacuation routes, first aid and rescue arrangements.
Inspections, Audits & Reporting
Conduct routine WHS inspections and audits.
Maintain records of observations, inspections, incidents and corrective actions.
Track outstanding WHS actions through to close-out.
Prepare regular WHS reports for the Project Manager and project management team.
Identify trends and recommend improvements.
Worker Engagement
Encourage workers to report hazards, near misses and safety concerns.
Facilitate toolbox talks and safety briefings where required.
Engage directly with workers to understand practical safety issues.
Promote consultation and participation in WHS matters.
About You
At least Cert IV in Work Health and Safety (or equivalent)
Minimum of 5 years' practical/hands-on WHS experience in construction, preferably major civil/infrastructure projects, together with demonstrated knowledge of NSW WHS legislation, risk management, incident investigation, construction safety systems and subcontractor management.
