Economics Adviser

Jo Clay MLA, ACT Greens Leader and Treasury and Economic Equality Spokesperson, is seeking an Economics Adviser to provide policy and strategic advice and generate new actionable ideas for the ACT Greens economic and major infrastructure platform. This role is available part-time or full-time, 3-5 days per week. 

Key responsibilities will include: 

• Develop briefs, analysis and new policies for the ACT Greens economics platform. This will include work on the ACT Budget, new revenue streams, Commonwealth funding, Community Wealth Building and other issues.
• Analyse ACT Budget, ACT major infrastructure pipeline and procurement issues. 
• Develop new ideas that will deliver community and environmental benefits.
• Show commitment and willingness to implement ACT Greens principles and policies around ecological sustainability, social justice, peace and non-violence and grassroots participatory democracy.
• Writing speeches and Private Members Business as well as negotiating and formulating positions on other Parties' proposals.
• Other duties as directed. 

Selection criteria 

• Experience or transferable skills in whole of government, infrastructure or economic policy analysis.
• Ability to clearly communicate complex ideas.
• Commitment to progressive, evidence-based economic policy.  
• Awareness and understanding of the ACT economy.
• Experience in, or willingness to learn, parliamentary systems.
• Good written, oral and relationship management skills.
• Capacity to work independently and meet deadlines.
• Commitment to Greens values. 

Desirable skills:

• A degree in Economics, Political Economy or related discipline.
• Experience in Government  
• Experience and skills in advocacy or campaigns

This role will be for the term of the 11th Assembly and is set at Adviser level 1 or 2, depending on skills and experience, plus superannuation and the LAMS allowance.  

The successful candidate will be engaged under a Legislative Assembly Members’ Staff contract, and other terms and conditions of employment are governed by the ACT Legislative Assembly Members’ Staff Enterprise Agreement 2023-2026.  It is not an ACT Public Service position.
