Family Lawyer - 5+ years' PAE

The Firm

Foster Johnson Family and Collaborative Lawyers (affectionately known as "FoJo") are a boutique family law firm in with offices in Canberra, Moorabbin (Victoria) and access to serviced offices in the Melbourne CBD.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced family lawyer with at least 5 years of post-admission experience to work with our teams across the ACT and Victoria offices.

We are open to discussing all elements of the role, including part-time, hybrid work arrangements, working days and hours, salary and other employment conditions. You don’t need to live in the ACT or Melbourne for us to consider your application. This is a fantastic opportunity to custom build a role to meet your career and lifestyle needs.

In this role, you will be exposed to a broad range of interesting family law matters, working across both litigation and settlement pathways. You will not be required to generate your own clients/referrals (we have a pipeline of work for you). But if you want to and can, we will support you with that. You will have opportunities for client-facing work and court appearances, managing files from end-to-end and autonomous work. You will also have mentoring and training opportunities. If you don’t know about Collaborative Law and are interested in learning the craft, we will teach you.

You will work with and be mentored by three partners who have collectively almost 60 years of experience in all family law practice areas, including an Accredited Family Law Specialist.  You will have the opportunity to help mentor less experienced lawyers (if this is something that interests you).

About You

To be successful in this role, you will:

• Have more than 5 years of post-admission family law experience;  

• Have a kind and flexible attitude;

• Be resilient, diligent and possess the ability to demonstrate and reflect in your work and in our workplace our key values of grit and compassion;

• Be able to work independently, seeking mentorship and supervision when necessary (ie – know what you don’t know!);

• Enjoy working in a small, vibrant and collegial team; and

• Ideally have a sense of humour and enjoy contributing positively to FoJo’s culture.
