Lyrian Health
About the role
Next Practice Newstead is a locally owned and operated, AGPAL-accredited private general practice in inner Brisbane and part of the national Next Practice network.
We operate from a premium, purpose-designed and technology-enabled facility, delivering patient-centred and preventative primary care across women's health, skin cancer medicine, lifestyle and integrative medicine, and corporate health.
Our small multidisciplinary team of GPs and allied health practitioners continues to grow steadily alongside patient demand. Since our ownership transition last year, we have invested significantly in our people, systems, technology, governance and external professional support, while receiving consistently positive patient feedback, including a five-star Google review streak.
Our private billing model supports longer consultations, thoughtful care and a more personalised patient journey. We aim to create an environment where clinicians can practise high-quality medicine while being supported by strong systems and an effective administrative team.
Located close to James Street, Gasworks Plaza and The Emporium precinct, the clinic services a strong executive demographic and benefits from sustained residential and commercial growth.
We're surrounded by some of Brisbane's best cafés, restaurants and amenities. The team makes good use of them too, whether it's a coffee run, team lunch or celebrating birthdays, milestones and special occasions together.

Our ambition is to build a gold standard of modern primary care within our community: patient-centred, multidisciplinary and holistic, with a strong focus on preventative medicine, wellbeing and healthy longevity.
We believe exceptional patient care starts with an exceptional care team. Our aim is therefore not only to empower patients, but to empower the people who care for them through the right culture, systems, technology and education.
By creating an environment where clinicians and team members are supported to work at their best, collaborate across disciplines and continually improve how care is delivered, we aim to provide healthcare that is more personalised, proactive, coordinated and sustainable.
Ultimately, our goal is simple: empower our team so they can better advocate for and care for the patients and community we serve.
We are seeking an experienced, commercially capable Practice Manager to take operational leadership of the clinic and help lead its next phase of structured growth.
This is a senior operational role with defined authority and accountability across team leadership, workflow efficiency, financial performance, patient and clinician experience, compliance and service delivery.
You will lead the operations of an established multidisciplinary care team currently comprising six part-time GPs, three part-time allied health practitioners, two nurses and two reception team members, with further recruitment and service growth underway.
You will have genuine operational authority to strengthen the administrative structure, clarify roles and responsibilities, develop team capability and shape how the practice operates as it grows.
Significant investment has already been made in our people, practice-management support, systems, technology, professional advisers and operational frameworks.
The opportunity for our Practice Manager is to bring these resources together through strong implementation, delegation, recruitment, alignment and follow-through, while continuing to identify practical opportunities for improvement and growth.
You will report directly to the Clinic Director, whose focus is strategic growth, clinical leadership and long-term development.
Our culture is grounded in professionalism, genuine care, mutual respect, accountability and proactive, collaborative problem-solving.
As the practice grows, there is genuine scope for the position to evolve into broader operational leadership, with increasing responsibility aligned with demonstrated capability, organisational growth and future expansion opportunities.
This is a growth and implementation role, not simply a maintenance position.
You will lead a relatively small, high-quality care team within a premium private practice where the emphasis is on personalised care, longer consultations, preventative health and a thoughtfully designed patient journey rather than high-volume throughput. This allows our clinical and administrative teams to focus on quality, relationships and sustainable care while maintaining a pleasant professional working environment.
We are looking for someone who enjoys taking ownership, creating clarity and turning good ideas into reliable operational outcomes. In return, we believe that level of responsibility should be matched by meaningful support, professional development and investment in your success.
You will be well supported by:• Experienced external healthcare practice-management and workplace-relations consultants
• Weekly Practice Manager education webinars with access to implementation support and help desks
• Established relationships with the local PHN and broader primary healthcare network
• National Next Practice IT, operational and marketing infrastructure
• A professional bookkeeper managing payroll, creditors runs and reconciliations
• An experienced Clinical Lead GP, Lead Nurse and multidisciplinary clinical team
• A Clinic Director with clinical and operational experience who remains available for governance, escalation and strategic support
• Ongoing professional development aligned with the role and growth of the practice
This role is about effective leadership, accountability and coordination, not a role where the Practice Manager is expected to personally perform every operational task.
We want our Practice Manager to have access to the expertise, systems and support required to make good decisions, while having the authority and autonomy to lead day-to-day operations and help grow the business.
• Take ownership of day-to-day operations, proactively anticipating issues, prioritising competing demands and translating risks and opportunities into achievable action plans.
• Maintain oversight of priorities, projects, deadlines and open operational matters, ensuring responsibilities are delegated appropriately and followed through to completion.
• Use data from Cubiko, Primary Sense, Best Practice, HotDoc, Xero, 3CX and other systems to guide decisions around clinician utilisation, patient access, financial sustainability and operational performance.
• Manage rostering, resources, procurement, expenditure, vendor and tenant relationships with appropriate consideration of service quality and financial viability.
Team leadership and culture• Lead and develop the administrative and clinical support teams, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management and workforce planning, while supporting clinician recruitment and onboarding as the practice grows.
• Establish clear expectations and accountability, delegate effectively and align responsibilities with individual capability and the practice's broader vision.
• Support communication, wellbeing and professional development through regular meetings, education, feedback and coaching, while being comfortable addressing performance issues and having constructive difficult conversations when required.
• Take ownership of complaints, feedback and service issues, identify root causes and implement sustainable improvements.
• Continually improve both patient and clinician experience through responsive support, efficient workflows and clear communication.
• Support recalls, preventative care initiatives and appointment optimisation to improve continuity of care, patient outcomes and appropriate clinician utilisation.
• Support community engagement, health education and appropriate initiatives that strengthen relationships between the practice and the community it serves.
Systems and continuous improvement• Lead implementation of agreed operational initiatives, ensuring changes are communicated clearly, responsibilities are delegated appropriately, adoption is monitored and intended outcomes are achieved.
• Maintain and refine policies, procedures, SOPs and operational playbooks to create consistency, accountability and continuity.
• Evaluate and implement appropriate technology, software, automation and workflow improvements that reduce administrative burden without compromising quality or patient safety.
• Maintain an enquiring mindset, identify operational gaps and convert opportunities into practical implementation plans.
Financial, governance and risk• Manage operational budgets, forecasting and structured reporting, including oversight of billing integrity, aged debtors, Medicare, DVA, WorkCover, PIP and WIP processes.
• Periodically review consultation fees, service structures and market benchmarks to support competitive positioning and long-term sustainability.
• Oversee accreditation, WHS, PRODA, HPOS and relevant regulatory requirements, remaining current with changes affecting general practice and translating them into operational action.
• Identify operational, financial, workforce, cultural and reputational risks early and engage our workplace relations, indemnity, accounting, legal, IT and other advisers when specialist expertise is required.
Stakeholder engagement and professional development• Represent the clinic professionally across the broader primary healthcare ecosystem and develop productive relationships with clinicians, PHNs, hospitals, suppliers, professional organisations and the Next Practice network.
• Identify opportunities for collaboration, service development and sustainable growth while advocating appropriately for the practice.
• Maintain contemporary practice-management knowledge through ongoing professional development, including our weekly Practice Manager education webinars, implementation help desk and appropriate professional networks and industry resources.
• At least 5 years' Practice Manager experience in general practice or primary care, with exceptional candidates with 3+ years considered
• Advanced proficiency in Best Practice and strong knowledge of Medicare billing, PRODA and HPOS
• Demonstrated experience in accreditation, practice operations, financial management and multidisciplinary team leadership
• Strong financial literacy and confidence using data to inform operational decisions
• Strong implementation capability, with demonstrated ability to translate plans and recommendations into sustained operational change
• Proven capability in recruitment, delegation, performance management, conflict resolution and difficult conversations
• Strong organisational judgement: able to distinguish urgent from important, identify risks and opportunities, delegate effectively and follow matters through to resolution
• Commercially minded, resourceful and comfortable investigating unfamiliar problems, identifying the right expertise and implementing practical solutions
• An enquiring mindset and genuine commitment to ongoing professional development
• Professional pride, high personal accountability and a leadership style grounded in integrity, respect, communication and continuous improvement
AAPM membership highly preferred.
Experience with MS Office, Outlook, HotDoc, Cubiko, Primary Sense, Tyro, 3XC and Xero is highly regarded, but equally important is the ability to rapidly learn and effectively implement new systems.
What We OfferFull-time position with an annual salary of $100,000 plus superannuation, together with clear operational authority within a defined governance structure.
Remuneration will be reviewed periodically, taking into account demonstrated performance, achievement of agreed outcomes and any material evolution in the scope and responsibilities of the role.
You will also receive:
• Significant investment in Practice Manager education and professional development
• Modern, purpose-built and technology-enabled working environment
• Access to experienced external advisers when specialist expertise is required
• A close-knit multidisciplinary team with strong clinician engagement and consistently positive patient feedback
• Genuine opportunity to progress into broader operational leadership as the practice grows
• A respectful, collaborative environment where initiative, good ideas and continuous improvement are encouraged
We are looking for a leader who does not need to know every answer, but knows how to investigate a problem, identify the right expertise, assess the options, mobilise the team and take ownership of bringing matters to resolution.
If you're an experienced leader looking for genuine operational ownership, strong professional support, career satisfaction with high impact factor, and the opportunity to help shape the next stage of a growing private practice, we'd welcome your application.
Please provide:
• A covering letter outlining your relevant skills and experience
• Your current CV
Applications will be reviewed confidentially.
