About the role
We are seeking an experienced, compassionate and highly skilled Head of Special Education Services (H01) to lead and strengthen inclusive education practices across our school community. This is a temporary full-time position until 30 October 2026, unless otherwise determined. This is an exciting opportunity for an innovative and collaborative educational leader who is passionate about empowering students with disability to achieve their potential and ensuring every student is supported to thrive.
About Us
Parramatta State School, located centrally in Cairns, strives for success for all students in a welcoming and accepting environment. We are a school of many and diverse cultures, including indigenous cultural groups.
Our school focuses on literacy and numeracy, but offers a broad curriculum that integrates the use of learning technologies. Every classroom is equipped with a ceiling/wall digital projector and teachers and students have access to a modern library, music and sports facilities.
Parramatta State School's student population is diverse, with the suburban community comprising of a broad cross section of occupations and cultural groupings. The student population reflects the social and cultural diversity of the surrounds. A significant feature of the school is its multi—cultural community.
Your Opportunity
Lead and coordinate inclusive education programs - Manage the delivery of high-quality advice, support and targeted programs through the Special Education Program and/or Early Childhood Development Program to meet the diverse needs of students with disability.Provide expert guidance and reasonable adjustments - Support school leaders, teachers and staff to identify student needs, develop effective reasonable adjustments, and implement inclusive teaching and learning practices that promote positive outcomes.Coordinate targeted intervention and case management - Lead intensive, targeted teaching and coordinate case management for students requiring substantial or extensive adjustments, ensuring individual needs are effectively identified, monitored and supported.Strengthen professional collaboration and partnerships - Support staff to access specialist services, professional learning and external expertise, while building strong partnerships with families, government agencies and community organisations to enhance student support.Drive effective systems, data and resource management - Contribute to school decision-making and strategic planning, implement systems to monitor student progress and disability adjustments, coordinate NCCD processes, and manage human, financial, facilities and curriculum resources effectively.
