Why work for Brennan?
At Brennan, we aim to lead, not follow. One of the ways we do this is through an open diverse culture that values performance, where anyone in the team can bring new ideas to the table and see them thrive. Our people are empowered, considerate, supportive, trusting and accepting, they are the cornerstone of the business. Because of this approach, we have become the largest Australian owned systems integrator in Australia and continue to grow.
Brennan offers an excellent remuneration package and benefits including:
- A strong culture underpinned by values that are truly lived every day
- An environment that embraces learning and development of all employees
- Flexibility to work in the way that brings out the best in you
The project One of our major customers is part-way through a multi-phase migration from a legacy on-premises data warehouse to a modern Azure data platform. Earlier phases established the platform, patterns and toolset. This phase strengthens the foundations: a new cloud analytics environment, deployment governance and CI/CD uplift, pipeline optimisation, environment replication and role-based access control, alongside a defined set of ingestion, archival and warehouse migration workloads. Delivery runs in two-week sprints with a team of two engineers and a shared project manager.
The role Brennan is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to lead the technical delivery of this phase. The role owns the platform design, provides direction to a Platform Engineer, and represents Brennan technically in front of the customer’s architects.
Approximately half of the engagement is platform work — deployment governance, CI/CD, environment provisioning and access control — with the balance in data engineering delivered on top of that platform. Depth in both disciplines is required, and the role is hands-on as well as design-led.
Responsibilities Platform and deployment - CI/CD and release management across the Azure data platform, including supporting documentation
- Provisioning and configuration of Azure resources, including access controls and workload management
- Configuration of SHIR to enable on-prem connectivity to Synapse
- Ownership of technical documentation publication, including resolution of current issues and implementation of an improved mechanism
- ADF and Synapse Pipeline development and optimisation, including deployment and testing across environments
- Direction, code review and quality assurance for one Platform Engineer prior to any work being released to the customer
- Technical triage through user acceptance and production verification testing
- Advisory on external dataset acquisition, including feasibility, authentication and automation options
- Technical guidance to customer teams building on the platform
Experience and skills required - Extensive experience in data platform or data engineering delivery, including at least three years on Azure
- Azure DevOps CI/CD for data workloads — repositories, pipelines, environment promotion, approvals and auditability. This is the single largest workstream in the engagement
- Extensive hands-on experience with Azure Data Factory, Synapse Dedicated SQL Pool and ADLS Gen2
- Azure platform provisioning, including subscriptions, networking, private endpoints, Synapse workspace configuration, Entra ID and service principals
- Demonstrated design and delivery of metadata-driven pipeline frameworks
- Strong dbt and advanced SQL capability, including performance tuning
- Proven ability to present designs to customer stakeholders, substantiate technical decisions and maintain agreed scope boundaries
- Agile delivery experience on two-week sprints against defined acceptance criteria
