Wood Machinist

Location: Queanbeyan, NSW

Salary: $80,001 - $100,000

Job Type: Permanent position | Full time position

• Set up and operate woodworking machines including saws, planers, routers, spindle moulders, thicknessers, and CNC machinery 
• Adjust machine settings, cutting tools, and guides to achieve precise dimensions and finishes 
• Interpret job specifications to determine appropriate machining methods 

2. Timber Processing and Fabrication

• Cut, shape, drill, and machine timber materials to required sizes and profiles 
• Produce components such as frames, joinery parts, mouldings, and structural elements 
• Ensure consistency and accuracy across batch production 

3. Reading and Interpreting Technical Drawings

• Read and interpret plans, shop drawings, and cutting lists 
• Translate technical specifications into machining processes 
• Verify measurements and tolerances prior to and during production 

4. Quality Control and Finishing

• Inspect finished products to ensure compliance with specifications and quality standards 
• Identify defects, inconsistencies, or machining errors and take corrective action 
• Perform finishing processes such as sanding, trimming, and edging 

5. Maintenance and Troubleshooting

• Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of woodworking machinery 
• Identify mechanical issues and report faults for repair 
• Replace or sharpen cutting tools and blades as required 

6. Workplace Health and Safety Compliance

• Operate machinery in accordance with WHS regulations and safe work procedures 
• Use personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times 
• Maintain a clean, organised, and hazard-free work environment 

7. Materials Handling and Inventory Support

• Select appropriate timber materials based on job requirements 
• Minimise waste through efficient cutting and material utilisation 
• Assist in stock control and reporting of material shortages 

8. Team Collaboration and Production Support

• Work closely with carpenters, cabinet makers, and supervisors 
• Assist in meeting production deadlines and project timelines 
• Provide input into process improvements and workflow efficiency    Qualification & experience Essential Criteria:
• Relevant trade qualification (at least AQF Cert III or IV) or at least 3 years of relevant experience if without formal qualification
• Minimum of 12 months of relevant work experience
• Demonstrated skills in handling of tile cutting tools
• Able to work unsupervised
• Ability to work under pressure
