Research Nurse

Mater Research are looking for a Research Nurse to join the team! This is a 12-month fixed-term role in a Full-time capacity. It will be based at our South Brisbane campus.

The experienced Research Nurse provides advanced coordination and leadership in clinical research, independently managing clinical trials from initiation to close‑out to ensure high‑quality, compliant, and patient‑centred delivery. The role oversees regulatory submissions, participant management, documentation and data integrity, and quality assurance activities while acting as a key liaison with internal and external stakeholders. Working with broad guidance from senior leaders, the position contributes to organisational research strategy, drives process and policy improvements, and builds capability by mentoring and supporting junior staff.

Salary range: $52.75 - $62.54 (MRI Clinical Trials L4) per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

• Independently coordinate clinical trials from start‑up through close‑out, ensuring all activities meet protocol requirements, HREC and governance approvals, GCP, and relevant regulatory guidelines (e.g., NHMRC, TGA).
• Provide comprehensive care and coordination for participants across all phases of their clinical trial journey, including recruitment, consent discussions, screening, enrolment, and day‑to‑day visit management within scope of practice.
• Attend participant visits as required and ensure participant needs are met safely, professionally, and in alignment with study protocols.
• Develop and maintain accurate study documentation and clinical records in line with ALCOA+ principles, including oversight of the Investigator Site File (ISF).
• Delivery and care of patients on antineoplastic therapy, immunotherapy and other cancer treatments.
• Lead the preparation, submission, and tracking of ethics and governance applications, amendments, and reporting requirements.
• Participate in study feasibility, site selection, and budget development in collaboration with business development and Lead Trial Coordinators.
• Ensure all trial conduct remains compliant with regulatory standards and institutional policies.

About you

Qualifications

Essential

• relevant bachelor’s degree (AQF7) and 4+ years’ experience.
• As required - Relevant profession registration
• Research Nurses: ADAC Certified or willing to work towards.

Desirable

• relevant post-graduate qualification.
• ICH GCP certified
• Postgraduate qualifications (Graduate Certificate or Diploma) with at least two years of relevant research experience, OR
• Demonstrated leadership in clinical research coordination and project management

Knowledge and Skills

Essential:

• Employees in this band are expected to possess substantial experience working and coordinating and leading projects in a clinical research environment.
• In-depth knowledge of research protocols, ethics, governance, and regulatory frameworks (GCP, TGA requirements).
• Ability to independently manage all aspects of clinical trials with minimal oversight.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including negotiation and external representation.
• Knowledge and skills in the management of patients with acute care needs.

Desirable:

• Experience in policy development and hospital accreditation processes.
• Experience in developing and implementing quality improvement initiatives in research.
• Previous involvement in clinical trial feasibility assessments and contract negotiations.
• Strong background in clinical or scientific research methodology and analysis.
• Experience representing an organisation at external meetings or conferences.
