Northern Health are seeking applications from motivated and suitably experienced Registered Nurses enrolled in the Graduate Diploma in Midwifery at La Trobe University in 2027, to join the Kilmore Maternity Team as a Registered Nurse/ Student Midwife.

Northern Health - Kilmore is located in the rapidly growing northern suburbs with projected growth the biggest in the state. With a booming, culturally rich and diverse community, and less than an hour's drive from the CBD, Melbourne's North is fast becoming the place to be.

Services are provided through our six main campuses:

Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn and Mernda Community Hospitals and Kilmore District Hospital. In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park, Mernda and Coburg.

About the Role:

An exciting opportunity exists for enthusiastic and motivated Registered Nurses to advance their careers with the Graduate Diploma in Midwifery at Northern Health in 2027.

Employment Status: 0.6 EFT (Paid Employment) 48 hours per fortnight, employment to begin February 2027 until January 2028.

A day in the life of a Diploma in Midwifery Student:

Postnatal ward

• Admission and discharge planning, assessing, caring and advocating for birthing people and their families through their child birthing and new parenting journey
• Supporting breastfeeding and mother-crafting
• Working collaboratively with the obstetrics and gynaecology, social work, Koori maternity services, perinatal mental health and physio teams (or available equivalent at Kilmore hospital)

Birth suite

• Supernumerary clinical placement providing supportive labour and birthing care to birthing people, including a 2-week rotation at Northern Hospital (Epping) to get exposure to high-risk intrapartum care.
• Opportunity to build and apply knowledge through a structured program
• Clinical support and timely feedback from experienced Clinical Midwifery Educators, Clinical Support Midwives and Midwifery and Neonatal teams (or available equivalent at Kilmore hospital)

Antenatal clinic and neonatal nursery exposure

• Supernumerary time in antenatal clinic to support the development of pregnancy care and recruitment for the Continuity of Care Experience component of the program
• 1-week Neonatal nursery rotation at Northern Hospital (Epping) to observe and experience care of babies requiring higher needs care.

To be successful in this role you will have:

• Bachelor of Nursing
• Current National Police History Check
• Current Working with Children Check
• Registered Nurse as per APHRA registration
• Recent acute medical/surgical experience (minimum 12 months, preferable 2 years)
