Mechanical Engineer & Draftsperson

About the role

Akaal Group Pty Ltd is seeking a talented Mechanical Engineer & Draftsperson to join our team in Rocklea, QLD. This is a full-time position that combines mechanical engineering expertise with technical drafting capabilities. You will play a crucial role in the design, development, and documentation of mechanical systems and components across our manufacturing and logistics operations. This position offers the opportunity to work on diverse projects whilst contributing to the technical excellence and innovation that drives our business forward.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop commercial Road Transport Equipment.

• Prepare Detailed CAD drawings.

• Develop and review engineering designs, specifications and calculations.

• Ensure trailer designs are structurally safe and suitable for intended loads and operating conditions.

• Adopt standard suspension, braking, axles, couplings and other mechanical systems into trailer design.

• Conduct structural and mechanical calculations where required.

• Ensure designs and comply with relevant Australian standards, regulations and engineering requirements.

• Work closely with production, fabrication and workshop team to resolve technical issues.

• Review and modify drawings based on manufacturing requirements.

• Prepare Bills of Material (BOM's), component specifications and technical documentation.

• Assist with prototype development, testing, inspection and design improvements.

• Liaise with suppliers and customers regarding technical requirements.

• Maintain accurate engineering records and drawing revisions.

What we're looking for

• Relevant qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design or a related discipline.

• Atleast one year experience in SolidWorks.

• Previous experience in trailer manufacturing, heavy duty, automotive, fabrication will be highly regarded.

• Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles and manufacturing processes.

• Proficency in SolidWorks required.

• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and manufacturing specifications.

• Knowledge of Australian vehicle/trailer compliance requirements and relevant standards.

• Understanding of structural design, welding and fabricated steel components.

• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

• Good communication and time management skills.
