Post-Doctoral Fellow
The School of Biomedical Sciences
As one of the largest teaching and research-intensive schools at UNSW, the School of Biomedical Sciences is uniquely placed to not only inspire the next generation of science and medical graduates but also lead in the discovery and development of tomorrow’s diagnostics, treatments and cures. It plays a key role in arming future medical practitioners, biomedical scientists and a broader community of health professionals, each of whom bring specialised knowledge and a diverse skill set to the frontiers of medical science.
The school holds strong cross-faculty connections with biotechnology, chemistry, maths, physics and engineering; along with academic staff and key partners whose work is based in the clinical or biotech space, this creates a naturally synergistic and innovative environment.
Details of the role
A Post-Doctoral Fellow (Level A) is expected to contribute to the research effort of UNSW by undertaking laboratory-based and translational cancer research, developing research expertise through defined projects, and supporting the translation of discoveries into clinical applications.
The position will contribute to a research project focused on developing nanomedicine-based RNA therapies for pancreatic cancer and lung cancer preclinical models. The role will involve molecular and cellular biology, synthesising nanoparticles, biomarker discovery, target validation, therapeutic assessment in preclinical cell culture models and animal models, and the design, execution, analysis and interpretation of preclinical and translational cancer studies.
As an early-career researcher, the Post-Doctoral Fellow will be expected to maintain high-quality experimental records, contribute to research outputs and funding-related activities, and build collaborative relationships with clinicians, consumers, researchers and industry partners to support the translation of research findings.
The Post-Doctoral Fellow reports to Professor Phoebe Phillips the Head of the Pancreatic Cancer Translational Research Group whose research program spans from cell biology discoveries, preclinical development of new therapeutics all the way to a current Phase-2 clinical trial and embedding correlative science into our precision medicine trials program and has no direct reports.
