About the role: The Senior Medical Scientist in Charge (P5) will be responsible for the overall planning, organising, directing and coordinating of research and development (R&D) activities within the PathWest FSH Immunology laboratory. The role combines advanced technical expertise in Immunology with laboratory management, staff leadership, quality, problem solving and innovation responsibilities. The successful applicant will lead the development and validation of new assays and technologies, support translational research initiatives, and foster a culture of scientific excellence, continuous improvement, and professional development.

Whilst this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, applicants found suitable for this position may be considered for other ‘similar’ vacancies within PathWest and/or the wider WA public sector. In addition to this, should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised vacancy, then the next most suitable applicant may also be selected from this process. Both of these options remain valid for a period of twelve (12) months from when the authorised delegate endorses the recruitment decision. These positions may include Fixed Term Full Time / Part Time with the possiblity of extension(s) and/or permanency.

Skills, experience and attributes necessary to competently discharge the duties of the office, post or position against identified criteria in the following areas:  

• Eligibility: Tertiary qualifications in Medical Science relevant to Clinical Immunology, Possesses the  correct right to work criteria citizenship, residency or relevant visa.
• Pre-employment conditions: Pre-Employment Integrity checks required,  Pre-Employment Health Assessment required, Completion of identification check, criminal record clearance as per Department of Health’s Criminal Record Screening Policy.
• Job requirements: Demonstrated extensive experience and expertise in all aspects of laboratory Immunology, Demonstrated extensive knowledge of transplantation Immunology, immunogenetics, immunodeficiency and/or autoimmunity related diagnostic services.
• Personal attributes: alignment of conduct with the Public Sector Code of Ethics and agency code of conduct, Commits to undertake the duties of the role in accordance with the WA Health Code of Conduct; the PathWest Vision and Values.
• Organisational requirements: operational needs such as start date, specific worksites and geographical locations. consistency with relevant equal opportunity legislation.
