Your day as a Senior Economic Analyst

As a Senior Economic Analyst in the Property & Revenue Initiatives team, you will lead policy work across key areas of state taxes, such as property stamp duty, land tax and emergency services levy. On a typical day, you will provide high‑quality economic and policy advice to support government decision‑making, drawing on research, quantitative analysis and modelling. You will act as the policy lead for specific tax measures or strategic projects, contributing to budget papers, research publications and reform proposals.

Your work will involve drafting concise briefings for senior executives, advising on legislative changes, and supporting parliamentary processes. You will engage regularly with stakeholders across Treasury, other NSW agencies, the Commonwealth and external bodies, building trusted and effective relationships. The role also involves managing projects, identifying risks, and ensuring delivery aligns with government priorities. You will have the opportunity to develop your leadership skills and support and mentor junior team members. Through this work, you will play a key role in shaping NSW tax policy and driving sustainable revenue reforms.

Achieve success as a Senior Economic Analyst

The ideal candidate should meet the following criteria:

• Tertiary qualifications in economics, public policy or law or have relevant experience
• Experience in providing advice on public policy and/or delivering policy analysis underpinned by data and economic evidence, ideally in one or more of the following areas:
• Tax policy
• Economic policy
• Data analysis and econometrics
• Economic and fiscal modelling
• Effective communication skills that allow you to clearly convey technical and complex information and analysis in different ways (verbal, written and visual) appropriate to the audience and its purpose.
• Ability to undertake policy costings and economic and fiscal modelling.
• A keen interest in and familiarity with tax policy and tax reform.
