An archivist and an intern work on preserving small paper albums from Photo Jack photography studio. The albums, each bound by a discarded paper print and metal bolt, were handmade by studio owner Agop Kuyumjian and used to organise and house the many negatives of studio portraits he took of the people of Tripoli, Lebanon. Here, the archivist and intern are referencing each album, whilst also being attentive to the photographer’s original referencing system in order to best preserve the objects, and the negatives they hold.

The Arab Image Foundation offers internships throughout the year. Internships provide the opportunity to work in different fields related to the foundation’s mission and activities and learn the mechanisms of a non-profit association.

Besides gaining experience at a cultural institution with photographic collections, interns benefit from a rewarding work. As part of a highly motivated team, interns contribute to ongoing projects and gain a close insight into AIF collections and its programmes.

The internship program is an excellent opportunity for someone with an interest in photography, research, preservation, archival, and artistic practices, and technology. We seek to tailor internships according to applicants experience and interests. Keep an eye out for open calls for internships.
