About the role
Position details:
Christ the King is a double stream Catholic Primary School with classes from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 6 and a wonderful vibrant Additional Needs Learning Support Centre. The school is situated 6 kilometres from the Fremantle harbour and 1 minute from the heart of Fremantle. Our school is set in a beautiful setting surrounded by trees and family homes. The School enjoys a close relationship with the Parish and the strong support of the parent community. Together with a comprehensive academic curriculum, Christ the King places strong emphasis on community and on excellence in teaching and learning.

Selection Criteria:
As a Registered Nurse (RN) working in a school setting
Health Assessment and Care:
•Conduct health assessments for students with neurodiverse needs, disabilities, and medical conditions.
•Follow and implement individualised health care plans (HCPs) based on students’ specific requirements.
•Administer medications, treatments, and medical procedures as prescribed by medical/hospital practitioners.
•Monitor students’ health status and respond promptly to any emergent situations.
Collaboration and Communication:
•Work closely with teachers, special education staff, and other school personnel to create a holistic support system.
•Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding students’ health conditions, medications, and care plans.
•Collaborate with external healthcare providers, therapists, and community resources to coordinate comprehensive care.
Health Education and Promotion:
•Educate students and staff, and work with parents, about health-related topics, including hygiene, nutrition and safety.
•Foster a health-conscious school environment by organising health awareness campaigns and workshops.
•Provide training to school staff on emergency protocols and first aid.
Emergency Response:
•Be prepared to handle medical emergencies, injuries, and sudden illnesses during school hours.
•Maintain emergency kits and ensure staff members are aware of their locations.
•Follow established protocols for crisis management.
Documentation and Record Keeping:
•Maintain accurate and confidential health records for each student.
•Document health assessments, treatments, and communication with parents.
•Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements related to health records.
Advocacy and Support:
•Advocate for students’ health needs within the school community.
•Support students in self-management of their health conditions.
•Provide emotional support to students and families during challenging times.
Experience:
•Prior experience in pediatric nursing, school nursing, or community health is advantageous.
•Familiarity with neurodiverse conditions, disabilities, and medical health care plans.
Skills:
•Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
•Compassion, empathy, and patience.
•Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
•Strong organisational and time-management skills.
Working Conditions:
Location: On-site at the school in a designated room.
Hours: Typically follows the school calendar terms, hours per day can be negotiated.
Qualifications required:
•Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited program.
•Current and valid RN license in the state.
•Current Working with Children registration.
