Senior Zoologist

About the role

Envisage Environmental is seeking a capable, practical zoologist who is equally comfortable leading fauna surveys across WA, managing a project, writing a technical report or speaking directly with a client. The role will include a mix of field and office-based work, with projects throughout Western Australia. A significant component of current work involves threatened fauna and bat ecology, including targeted surveys, acoustic monitoring, roost assessments, impact assessment and longer-term monitoring programs. However, projects span a broad range of vertebrate fauna work across Western Australia.

Key responsibilities

• Planning and leading vertebrate fauna surveys throughout WA
• Identifying WA vertebrate fauna and undertaking targeted surveys and monitoring for conservation-significant fauna
• Managing field teams and survey logistics
• Preparing proposals, budgets and project schedules
• Managing projects from commencement through to delivery
• Analysing and interpreting ecological data
• Preparing high-quality technical reports, impact assessments and management documentation
• Liaising directly with clients, collaborators and other specialists
• Contributing ideas to improve the way we collect, analyse and communicate ecological information

About you

• 5+ years' experience in zoological or ecological consulting and confident in the field
• Degree in zoology, ecology, environmental science or a related discipline
• Strong WA vertebrate fauna identification skills
• Experience undertaking and preferably leading fauna surveys
• Good understanding of WA fauna survey guidelines and regulatory requirements
• Strong technical writing skills
• Experience managing projects, budgets and timelines
• Confidence communicating directly with clients
• Sound judgement and the ability to work independently
• Practical, solutions-focused approach to fieldwork and consulting

Our project portfolio is diverse, with work occurring across Western Australia for mining, infrastructure, land development and other sectors. We undertake a significant amount of specialist bat work and intend to continue building one of WA's strongest capabilities in this area.
