Join our leadership team as the Team Leader for Environmental Health

Lead a passionate and highly skilled Environmental Health team and make a tangible impact on the health, safety and wellbeing of the Redlands community. This is a rare opportunity to oversee the full breadth of environmental and public health functions, from food safety and public health compliance to environmental investigations, event assessments and local law matters. You'll lead a diverse team, build strong industry and regional partnerships, represent Council at key forums across South East Queensland, and drive a culture of collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement. Combined with flexible working arrangements and the ability to accrue flex time for additional days off, this role offers a unique blend of leadership, influence and work-life balance that's not often found in local government.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Lead and inspire - Build a high-performing team culture focused on motivation, accountability, wellbeing and exceptional service delivery.

• Drive environmental health outcomes - Oversee licensing, compliance, investigations and monitoring activities across a diverse portfolio.

• Provide expert guidance - Interpret and apply environmental health legislation, regulations and local laws to complex matters.

• Represent Council - Develop strong relationships with industry bodies, government agencies, educational institutions and regional networks.

• Manage complex compliance matters - Support balanced, practical decision-making that achieves both regulatory and community outcomes.

• Deliver business excellence - Manage budgets, resources and operational priorities to ensure efficient and cost-effective services.

• Lead continuous improvement - Review processes, procedures and service delivery models to drive innovation and best practice.

• Coach and develop your team - Provide mentoring, performance leadership and professional development opportunities to support team success.

Skills and experience:

• Proven success leading and developing multidisciplinary environmental health teams.

• Significant experience applying and interpreting environmental health legislation, regulations and standards.

• Strong leadership skills with the ability to build engagement, motivation and a positive team culture.

• Demonstrated experience managing budgets, resources and operational performance.

• Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across diverse groups.

• Highly developed organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and complex workloads.

• Strong written communication, analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

• Experience leading change, driving continuous improvement and implementing best-practice service delivery.

Who we are:

Eligibility:

• You'll hold a manual 'C' Class Drivers Licence
• You'll hold a Professional qualification/s in Environmental Health with the ability to be admitted as a full member of Environmental Health Australia.
• This position has been identified as working in an at risk work location or as an at risk worker for vaccine preventable diseases. In line with Council’s occupational immunisation standards, and aligned with Queensland Health recommendations, it is strongly recommended that the incumbent is protected through appropriate immunisation for this role. Vaccines relevant to this position include Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Tetanus, and Q Fever. Incumbents are responsible for taking reasonable steps to protect themselves from vaccine preventable diseases.
