About the role
A new part-time position supporting a small community of Dominican Sisters to live well, stay connected and be cared for as they age.
The Dominican Sisters of Western Australia are a small community of mainly retired Sisters living in the Perth area, with a long history of ministry in education and pastoral care across the State. The Sisters are moving to a new governance arrangement this year, with an incorporated management committee and a small team of employed staff, and this new role sits at the centre of that team.
The Community Coordinator makes sure each Sister receives the practical, pastoral and wellbeing support she needs, and continues to live a valued and meaningful life as she ages.
Reporting to the Management Committee and working closely with the Office Manager, the Health and Wellbeing Coordinator (a Registered Nurse) and the Business Manager, you will provide day-to-day support to the Sisters. That means building trusted relationships with each Sister, advocating for her, accompanying her to appointments where needed, and helping her stay connected with family, friends, the wider Dominican family and past ministries. You will help the community keep its traditions and celebrate the events that matter to it, visit Sisters in hospital or residential care, and work with the Health and Wellbeing Coordinator on care planning and access to aged-care services. You will also keep each Sister's personal and legal records complete, confidential and secure.
The position is permanent part-time, 20 hours per week, worked as five hours a day over four days. Days and hours are negotiable, and there is scope to work from home when you are not with the Sisters. Some flexibility is needed to respond to occasional after-hours situations.
About you
Your sensitivity to the needs and cultural context of religious Sisters, and a genuine wish to support older people, are the foundation of this role. You will bring:
• relevant qualifications in social work, pastoral care or a related field
• experience providing care, support or coordination in a community, aged-care or faith-based setting
• working knowledge of the legal and administrative arrangements that surround aged care, including enduring powers of attorney and guardianship
• an understanding of spiritual care and of the practices of Catholic religious life
• the ability to advocate for an individual Sister with courage and discretion, and to maintain confidentiality
• strong organisational and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work well with colleagues, families and service providers.
What is on offer
• $43 to $46 per hour plus 12% superannuation, depending on qualifications and experience (Social and Community Services (WA) Interim Award, Community Services Worker Level 4)
• permanent part-time hours, negotiable days and a hybrid working arrangement
• per-kilometre reimbursement for use of your own vehicle
• the chance to work for a mission-focused community and to support women who have spent their lives supporting others.
