Natural Area Management Officer - Pest Animals

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Sustainability and Environment Team as the Natural Area Management officer - Pest Animals on a permanent part-time basis.

In this position you will develop and implement programs to manage the impacts of introduced pest species on environmental assets, supporting the protection of environmental values through practical pest animal management.

About the role:

• Design and deliver adaptive pest animal management monitoring and control programs that reduce the impacts of introduced species on Council-managed natural areas and environmental assets.
• Plan, coordinate and implement annual works programs, including site assessment, prioritisation, monitoring and evaluation of pest management activities.
• Build and maintain strong partnerships with landholders, community groups, government agencies and contractors to support effective on-ground pest management outcomes.
• Prepare technical reports, plans and other documentation, requiring high level written and verbal communication skills.
• Apply relevant legislation, planning instruments and best practice management approaches in a public land management context.

We are seeking:

• Qualifications in natural resource or land management, environment or natural sciences (or equivalent) with demonstrated experience delivering pest animal monitoring and control projects in a conservation or public land setting.
• Proven ability to plan, implement and evaluate introduced pest species programs, including site assessment, works prioritisation, monitoring and adaptive management.
• Sound understanding of environmental and biosecurity legislation, pest management frameworks, planning instruments and their application to public land management in NSW.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience engaging with community members, agencies and other stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to identify and secure grant funding, engage and supervise consultants / contractors, and proficiency in Microsoft Office, GIS and data management systems.
• Current Class C Driver Licence.

This position is based in Murwillumbah and can be directed to work from any Council work site.
