Goldfields Rewinds is a Kalgoorlie-based electrical repair and rewind business supporting mining, industrial and commercial customers across the Goldfields region.
We specialise in the inspection, repair, rewinding, assembly and testing of electric motors and related rotating electrical equipment. Due to continued demand, we are seeking an experienced Motor Rewinder / Electrical Fitter to join our workshop team.
The Motor Rewinder / Electrical Fitter will be responsible for the inspection, repair, rewinding, assembly and testing of electric motors, pumps, generators and related rotating electrical equipment.
This is a hands-on workshop role suited to someone who takes pride in quality workmanship, has strong fault-finding ability and can work safely and accurately in a busy industrial repair environment.
In this role, you will:
Strip, inspect and assess electric motors, pumps, generators and related rotating equipment.
Diagnose winding failures, insulation breakdown, bearing failure, mechanical damage and other defects.
Record winding data, repair findings, photographs and job information.
Rewind AC and DC motors, stators, rotors, armatures and coils as required.
Remove failed windings and prepare motors for rewinding.
Install insulation systems, coils, wedges, ties and terminations.
Complete varnishing, curing, baking and insulation treatment processes.
Assemble, fit and reconnect motor components.
Replace or repair bearings, seals, terminal boxes, leads, fans and associated parts.
Carry out electrical testing, including insulation resistance, winding resistance, surge testing, polarity checks and no-load testing.
Complete test sheets, job cards, inspection reports and repair documentation.
Identify non-conformances and report defects, delays or material requirements to the Workshop Manager.
Maintain a clean, organised and safe work area.
Follow all safety, electrical and workshop procedures.
Assist with other workshop duties as reasonably required.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Strong knowledge of electric motors and rotating electrical equipment.
Previous experience rewinding, repairing, assembling and testing motors.
Good diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
Ability to read nameplates, wiring diagrams, drawings and technical specifications.
High attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.
Strong safety awareness.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Reliability, organisation and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Trade qualification in electrical fitting, motor rewinding, armature winding or equivalent relevant experience.
Previous experience rewinding and repairing electric motors.
Experience testing and fault-finding motors or rotating electrical equipment.
Ability to complete accurate job records and test documentation.
Current Australian driver’s licence.
The following will be highly regarded:
Experience with mining, industrial or heavy-duty electric motors.
Experience with pumps, generators or high-voltage motors.
Forklift licence.
Overhead crane, dogging or rigging ticket.
Experience with flameproof or hazardous area equipment.
Experience mentoring apprentices or trades assistants.
WA electrical worker licence, electrical fitting endorsement or other authorisation where required for the work performed.
Full-time position based in Kalgoorlie.
