Communications Field Technician - Mining Services

We’re on the lookout for Field Technicians to join our growing team, working on a variety of FIFO and local communications projects across Western Australia. This role offers the best of both worlds—remote site work with FIFO flexibility and Perth-based local support and office hours.

As a Communications Field Technician, your role is to ensure our remote mining operations stay seamlessly connected. From maintaining CCTV systems to installing microwave towers, this role is varied and requires someone with a background in cabling, telecommunications, CCTV, or related fields.

Candidates must have at least 2 years of experience in telecommunications or security systems.

Australian work rights are required for this position.

What you will be doing:

• Install, commission and maintain various security systems.

• Perform site maintenance and support under planned maintenance contracts, including cleaning cameras and inspecting access control equipment.

• Creating and updating documentation, including design documents and test plans.

• Collaborate with other teams to troubleshoot connectivity issues and minimise downtime.

• Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance.

• Perform safe and efficient installation, termination, testing and maintenance of communications infrastructure.

• Work across Non-Processing Infrastructure (NPI) and operational plant areas.

• Review technical drawings to determine equipment positioning and cabling routes.

• Install, test, and repair a range of cabling types, including optical fibre, twisted pair (Cat 6, Cat 5e), coaxial, and security cabling.

• Maintain and upgrade comms racks, patch panels, and internal wiring.

• Deliver scheduled preventative maintenance to reduce downtime and ensure system integrity.

• Follow customer-specific procedures and safety policies at all times.

Essential Experience

• Experience in delivering mining communications and field-based technologies, including information technology, networks, systems administration, CCTV security and MATV.

• Proven experience working within a team environment with maintenance and projects.

• Proven remote site experience.

• Physically fit, self-motivated and able to work safely in a dusty, outdoor mining environment with minimal supervision.

Work Knowledge

• Good general IP technology knowledge of routers, switches, networks, and IP protocol concepts and components.

• Experience in security and access control industry.

• Knowledge of two-way radios and microwave technology would be desirable.

• Solid understanding of safety regulations and compliance requirements.
