PT Receiving Clerk - Forklift Driver

Position Summary

Receiving Clerk - Checks, counts, verifies, and documents delivered merchandise. Stacks merchandise onto pallets and wraps pallets in plastic wrap. Keys received merchandise into computer. Monitors all merchandise received and dispatched from the warehouse and all people entering and exiting the building through the Receiving Department. Assists in loading and unloading trucks. Follows proper safety and security procedures and standards. 

Forklift Driver - Moves pallets of merchandise with a stand-up electric forklift/double jack from delivery trailers to receiving dock. Checks delivered merchandise against freight bill. Follows proper safety and security procedures and standards.

Job Duties/Essential Functions

Receiving Clerk: 

• Sets dock restraints to lock trailer to receiving dock by pushing button and monitoring lights
• Monitors all merchandise into and out of the building
• Monitors all people entering and exiting the building through Receiving
• Maintains security of receiving access
• Opens, counts, and checks merchandise against freight bill; signs freight bill
• Communicates with buying staff to resolve receiving issues
• Scans merchandise using radio frequency (RF) gun to verify UPC and item
• Keys received goods into computer using RF gun and prints pallet tags and stickers
• Notifies Receiving Manager of any miss marked, damaged or mis-shipped items
• Prepares double-received goods for transport to floor/steel
• Stacks bed-loaded and merchandise from damaged pallet onto Costco approved pallets
• Assists in loading and unloading merchandise and pallets onto/off of trucks
• Assists in removing empty pallets and merchandise from the sales floor
• Cleans and clears receiving dock of any debris or safety hazard
• Follows proper Receiving and general safety and security procedures and standards
• Assists in other areas departments of the warehouse as needed
• Provides prompt and courteous customer service to members, employees, and suppliers

Forklift Driver: 

• Operates stand-up electric forklift and electric pallet jack to move pallets of merchandising from inside delivery trailers to the receiving dock to be checked in
• Completes daily forklift safety checklist and follow safety procedures
• Checks to see that all truck wheels are chocked and dock lock is in place before entering the truck
• Changes out forklift batteries and hooks batteries up to battery charger
• Stacks non-palleted merchandise and merchandise from damaged or unacceptable pallets onto Costco-approved pallets
• Down-stacks and separates mixed item pallets for checking
• Counts and checks merchandise against freight bill
• Notifies Receiving Manager of any damaged or mis-shipped items
• Signs freight bill as the first receiver
• Wraps pallets of double received goods with plastic wrap and move into rows of stacked pallets for transport to the floor or steel by merchandising drivers
• Communicates with floor managers and merchandising Forklift Drivers to set priorities and determines pallet organisation 
• Loads merchandise and empties pallets to be shipped out onto trucks
• Assists with second receiving. Keys received goods into computer
• Orders the printing of pallet tags and barcode stickers
• Monitors all merchandise into and out of building
• Monitors people entering or leaving the building prior to opening for secure building access and follow security procedures
• Follows proper Receiving and general safety and security procedures and standards
• Assists in other departments of the warehouse as necessary
• Provides prompt and courteous customer service to members, employees, and suppliers

Ability to operate vehicles, equipment or machinery

• Computer, printer, phone, camera, card printer, calculator, hand-held scanner, cart, flatbed cart, utility cart, step stool, tape gun, sticker marking gun, cutter, hand truck, pallet jack, stand up forklift, electric pallet jack, battery charger, shrink wrap, pallets, licence labels, dock lock system, dock plates, broom, rubbish compactor, cardboard baler

Qualifications (Costco-specific or industry specific skills that candidates should possess)

Education/Training:

• High School Certificate or higher

Licenses/Certifications:

• Forklift licence

Experience/Skills:

• Warehouse, stand up forklift driving, receiving or comparable experience
• Supervisory, leadership or comparable skills
• Strong communication, interpersonal and organisation skills
• Problem solving skills and critical thinking
• Knowledge of forklift operations
• Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides) and AS400
• Basic math skills
