About the role
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Fitter with demonstrated hydraulics system experience to join our team, working on the design, assembly, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of complex mobile equipment. This role requires hands-on expertise with hydraulic systems, mechanical assemblies, and diagnostic fault-finding, ideally gained in industries such as rail, mining, construction, or heavy transport.

About the Role:
Assemble, install, and commission hydraulic systems on new-build road-rail equipment and other mobile machinery.
Undertake mechanical fitting duties including structural assembly, alignments, seal replacements, hub assembly and bearing changes
Test and calibrate hydraulic systems for performance, safety, and compliance with rail industry standards.
Rebuild hydraulic components such as cylinders, pumps, motors, and valves.
Fabricate, route, and crimp hydraulic hoses and pipes to specification.
Interpret hydraulic schematics, mechanical drawings, and technical manuals.
Work closely with engineers, electricians, fabricators and other trades to deliver projects on time and to quality standards.
Diagnose and repair hydraulic faults in workshop and field service environments.
Conduct preventative maintenance on hydraulic and mechanical systems to reduce downtime.
Complete all work in accordance with workplace health and safety, rail safety, and quality control requirements.
Trade qualification as a Mechanical Fitter or Fitter & Turner (Certificate III or higher).
Proven experience with hydraulic systems on mobile equipment (e.g., excavators, cranes, trucks, rail machinery).
Strong understanding of hydraulic principles and fluid power systems.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical and hydraulic drawings.
Competence in using hydraulic testing and diagnostic equipment.
Experience with hose crimping, component rebuilding, and hydraulic cylinder repairs.
Sound mechanical aptitude, with the ability to work independently and in a team.
Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Current driver’s licence (HR licence desirable).
High Risk Work Licence (e.g., forklift, dogging, crane, ewp) advantageous.
