Legal Counsel

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a commercially minded Legal Counsel to join a market-leading infrastructure, environmental services and energy business delivering some of Australia's most significant water, resource recovery and energy transition projects.

Reporting to the General Counsel, you will play a key role supporting major infrastructure and energy projects from bid stage through to project delivery and operations. Working closely with senior stakeholders across the business, you will provide strategic legal advice on complex construction, procurement, commercial and governance matters while helping manage legal and commercial risk across high-value projects.

About the role

This is a broad and engaging in-house role offering exposure to the full project lifecycle, including:

• Advising on major project bids, tenders and procurement activities.
• Drafting and negotiating complex commercial, construction, supply and services agreements.
• Supporting major infrastructure, utilities, resource recovery and energy projects.
• Advising on contract administration, variations, claims and dispute avoidance.
• Negotiating joint venture, consortium and collaboration arrangements.
• Providing corporate governance, compliance and regulatory advice.
• Partnering with senior executives, project directors, procurement and operational teams.

About you

To be successful, you will bring:

• A current Australian practising certificate (or eligibility to obtain one).
• Approximately 6-8 years' post-qualification experience.
• Experience gained in a leading law firm, in-house environment, or a combination of both.
• Strong front-end construction, projects or infrastructure experience.
• Excellent drafting, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
• A pragmatic and commercial approach to legal risk management.
• Experience with major projects, procurement and complex contracting arrangements.
• Exposure to infrastructure, utilities, energy, environmental services, waste or resources sectors will be highly regarded.
