Business Development Engineer

About the Opportunity

Berendsen Fluid Power has an exciting opportunity for a Business Development Engineer to join our Wollongong branch. This role sits at the intersection of technical expertise and business growth. You'll be out in the field building relationships, uncovering new opportunities, and working with clients across the Illawarra to understand their fluid power needs and deliver the right hydraulic solution. Whether it's cylinders, power units, or complete system solutions, your technical grounding and commercial drive will be what sets you apart.

Key Responsibilities

• Own and grow the customer base across the Wollongong region, hunting new business alongside managing existing accounts
• Collaborate with clients to understand technical requirements and deliver tailored fluid power solutions
• Develop and maintain strong relationships across key industries including steel, mining, manufacturing and transport
• Build sales strategies and campaigns to drive territory growth
• Prepare quotes, proposals and technical documentation for clients
• Provide technical support, product recommendations, and post-sale assistance
• Work with our engineering and workshop teams to ensure feasibility and timely delivery of solutions
• Gain in-depth knowledge of Berendsen's product range, including cylinders, power units, fluid conveying products, and leading brands such as Danfoss and Pall
• Track opportunities, pipeline and customer insights using CRM tools
• Represent Berendsen at customer sites, industry events, and in the local community

About You

• Proven experience in fluid power, hydraulics, or a related engineering/technical field – or strong commercial experience with a genuine interest in learning the technical side
• Strong commercial acumen with a track record of identifying and developing new business
• Self-motivated and organised, comfortable managing your own diary and pipeline
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills – equally at ease with technical and non-technical stakeholders
• A proactive, solutions-focused mindset
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications (or willingness to build this skill)
• Engineering qualification, trade background, or equivalent industry experience
• A current driver's licence
