CBC Fremantle
About the role
CBC Fremantle is a Catholic school in the Edmund Rice tradition for boys in Years 7-12. Founded by the Christian Brothers in 1901, the College has served the local Fremantle community for over a century helping families to develop boys who continually strive for excellence and who exhibit Catholic Leadership in their quest to establish a more just and peaceful society.
The College seeks to assist in the spiritual, academic, cultural, physical and emotional development of boys while acknowledging the primary role of the family as educator. As such, the College encourages its students to rigorously pursue excellence in all dimensions of their lives and to become leaders within their community through the active expression of their faith.
The Head of Year 7 is expected to work cooperatively with all Year 7 students, parents and College staff to achieve positive pastoral and academic outcomes. This includes facilitating the transition process from a primary school setting to a high school context and supporting students throughout their first year of secondary school.
Key Responsibilities
The successful applicant will:
Pastoral
Have a clear understanding of Pastoral Care at CBC Fremantle in the context of our Points of Difference and work cohesively with all members of the Pastoral Board to ensure delivery of the best possible Pastoral Care for Year 7 students.
Work collaboratively to monitor the progress of students in Year 7 to ensure their pastoral welfare, sense of belonging and wellbeing, liaising with relevant staff and implementing strategies and interventions where appropriate.
Establish and foster close relationships with families of Year 7 students and encourage their participation in their child’s learning.
Coordinate the Heroic Habits Wellbeing Program for Year 7.
Academic
Work collaboratively to monitor the progress of students in Year 7 through the tracking of academic behaviours and results and implement appropriate intervention strategies as required.
Work with relevant staff to promote positive academic behaviours with Year 7 students through the Wellbeing Program, Extended Mentor and assemblies.
Coordinate Year 7 Homework Club.
Assist with coordinating the provision of Academic Care to Year 7 students.
General
Establish an obvious and visible presence throughout the College and within Year 7.
Be responsible for the organisation and running of events and programs for Year 7 and the wider College including but not limited to: Transition Visits to primary schools, Orientation Events and Transition Week.
Coordinate the annual Year 7 Social Event.
Assist with the implementation of the Year 11 Peer Mentoring Program through the Year 7 Extended Mentor program.
Be an active member of the College Pastoral Board including being based in the Pastoral Care office and being prepared to be called on for Pastoral Care issues whenever they arise.
Contribute to strategic improvement projects of Pastoral Care at CBC Fremantle.
Engage regular consultation with Academic Care, College Psychologists and Deputy Principal Pastoral Care.
Attend a significant number of College events outside of school hours.
Any other duties reasonably requested by the Principal.
Key Selection Criteria
The successful applicant will:
Be supportive of the Catholic ethos of the College and integrate a Catholic vision in all areas of their responsibility.
Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the charism of Blessed Edmund Rice as articulated in the ‘Charter for Catholic Schools in the Edmund Rice tradition’.
Undertake Accreditation and Formation Programs appropriate to their duties.
Be an active member of the CBC Fremantle community with a strong commitment to promoting and supporting varied aspects of College life.
Demonstrate a strong understanding of the relevant pastoral and curriculum needs of Year 7 students and be an exemplary teacher in this transitional age group.
Demonstrate a clear understanding of ‘The Journey’, and how it applies specifically to Year 7 students at CBC Fremantle.
Clearly exhibit leadership characteristics including competence, intrinsic motivation, vision, integrity and diligence.
Have well developed written and oral communication skills.
Have excellent interpersonal skills.
Be able to work cooperatively as part of a team.
Position Details
Commencing 1 January 2027.
0.4 Time Allowance.
A Level 1 monetary allowance is applicable to this position.
