Your New Role
The Maintenance/Groundsperson Staff member in ensures the Mater Dei Primary School Facilities remain safe, functional, and well-maintained for students, staff, and visitors. This role assists in implementing a proactive preventative maintenance program, addressing operational and safety concerns efficiently, and contributing to the overall upkeep and improvement of the school’s facilities.

Monday 8.00am - 1.30pm (includes a 30 min unpaid break)
Tuesday 9.00am - 2.30pm (includes a 30 min unpaid break)

Salary: Level 3: $74,665 per hour (Pro Rata) - Unaveraged (works during school break)
Essential Criteria
Demonstrated Experience in Grounds Maintenance and Care for Presentation: Proven skill in mowing, garden upkeep, tree pruning, and maintaining/repairing irrigation systems to present school grounds to a high standard.
General Maintenance and Minor Repair Skills: Practical experience executing general repairs, basic carpentry (e.g., door hinges, locks), and minor painting/finishing tasks safely and effectively.
Ability to plan, prioritise, and Work Health and Safety (WHS) and Compliance: Working knowledge of WHS practices, chemical handling protocols, and a proactive approach to identifying, managing, and reporting school safety hazards. Ability to manage the physical demands of the position (successful completion of functional assessment is a mandatory condition of employment). Maintains a current Driver’s Licence.
Time Management and Prioritisation: Ability to work autonomously, manage task logs, prioritise competing operational needs, manage maintenance tasks efficiently to ensure timely job completion and coordinate event setups in consultation with the Leadership Team.
Child Safe Standards and Catholic Ethos: Willingness to support the Catholic ethos of the school, understanding of Child Safe Standards and has completed mandatory pre-employment checks for working with children.
Accreditation for Support Staff in a Catholic School (Category A, Accreditation to Work Teach and Lead in Systemic Catholic Schools, Catholic Education Diocese of Wagga Wagga) or willing to achieve.
Current Driver’s License

Successful candidate to undergo a National Criminal History Check and Functional Assessment
Desirable:
Contractor Coordination and Quotations: Experience liaising with external trades, requesting and evaluating quotes, and overseeing contractors for specialised maintenance requirements (e.g., plumbing, electrical).
Relevant Qualifications and/or Experience: Trade qualifications in Carpentry, Horticulture, Parks and Gardens, Handy man / General Maintenance, alongside current First Aid/CPR certificate
School and Event Logistics Support: Prior experience supporting school related operations, such as sports carnivals, canteen logistics, or large-scale community functions.
School Holiday Operations: Demonstrated ability to independently plan, schedule, and execute major maintenance projects during non-term period breaks.
Equipment Servicing and Maintenance: Practical mechanical knowledge to perform routine servicing, troubleshooting, and preventative care on power tools, mowers, and grounds equipment.
