Primary objective
To provide leadership and strategic oversight of NT Government (NTG) exploration grants, industry intelligence, external engagement and
promotion and investment attraction functions and provide authoritative advice on the Territory’s resource base, exploration activity and
developing upstream resources projects.
Context statement
The Northern Territory Geological Survey (NTGS) is the custodian of knowledge and data on the Territory’s geology and resources and
undertakes activities to support and grow the minerals and petroleum exploration industry.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Strategically lead the delivery of the Geophysics and Drilling Collaborations (GDC) grants program, ensuring effective governance,
compliance, risk management and stakeholder engagement to support exploration innovation and investment.
2. Provide strategic industry intelligence and expert advice on the Territory's resources, exploration activity, developing projects and
factors influencing exploration investment.
3. Lead industry engagement and investment attraction activities to promote the Northern Territory's resource potential and
opportunities, and build and maintain strong relationships with industry, investors, government and other stakeholders.
4. Manage and ensure accuracy and currency of databases of mineral deposits, developing projects, mines and resources.
5. Lead delivery of high-quality technical promotional content including publications, events and presentations to enhance NTGS profile
and support investment attraction.
6. Manage and enhance the Resourcing the Territory program website as a trusted source of technical information and a key platform
for stakeholder engagement and promotion.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Tertiary qualification in geoscience or a related discipline from a recognised university.
2. Extensive knowledge of the resources exploration sector, including geoscientific, technical, policy, financial and regulatory challenges
and opportunities.
3. Proven ability to analyse complex issues, develop policy responses and provide high-level strategic advice to inform organisational
and government decision-making.
4. Highly developed communication, stakeholder engagement, negotiation and influencing skills, including demonstrated ability to
communicate complex technical information, develop promotional and engagement initiatives, and build strategic partnerships.
5. Demonstrated experience leading complex programs, projects or grant initiatives, including governance, risk management, budget
management, stakeholder engagement and delivery of outcomes within agreed timeframes.
6. Demonstrated contemporary leadership experience, including managing people, budgets and multidisciplinary teams, and translating
strategic objectives into operational outcomes within set timeframes.
Desirable
1. High-level knowledge of the geology and mineral and energy resources of the Northern Territory.
2. Experience in the management and delivery of industry grants programs.
3. Demonstrated experience in promoting investment opportunities within an international business setting.
Further information
The position requires the ability to travel interstate and/or internationally to participate in delegations and events.
