Technical Sales & Estimator - Plastics and Fabrication

About the role

This is not a traditional sales role. You will work alongside our Client Liaison & Estimating Coordinator, assisting with technical customer enquiries and taking responsibility for interpreting and estimating a range of custom fabrication, pipework, installation and maintenance projects. You will need strong knowledge of industrial plastics, fabrication and/or pipework to understand customer requirements, interpret drawings and specifications, develop practical fabrication solutions and accurately quote the work.

Key responsibilities

• Review customer enquiries, drawings, specifications and scopes of work

• Liaise directly with customers to clarify technical requirements and develop suitable solutions

• Prepare accurate quotations for custom plastic fabrication, tanks, pipework, installation and maintenance works

• Estimate materials, fittings, components, labour, equipment and fabrication time

• Determine appropriate labour requirements, including crew size, skills and estimated job duration

• Understand the practical requirements involved in manufacturing and installing custom fabricated items

• Read and interpret technical and isometric drawings

• Produce or modify isometric drawings where required

• Work with our Client Liaison & Estimating Coordinator to progress enquiries and quotations

• Liaise with workshop and site personnel to ensure quoted works can be delivered as planned

About you

• Previous experience in technical estimating, fabrication, technical sales or a similar role

• Strong knowledge of plastics and fabrication processes

• Experience with HDPE and/or PP sheet and pipe fabrication highly regarded

• Experience estimating custom tanks and fabricated items highly regarded

• Sound knowledge of fittings, flanges, pipework and associated components

• Ability to accurately estimate material quantities and labour hours

• Ability to read and interpret fabrication and isometric drawings

• Experience producing isometric drawings using iKAD or similar software highly regarded

• Strong technical problem-solving skills

• Good customer service and communication skills

About us

Poly WA is a WA-owned plastics fabrication and installation business based in Kewdale. We provide custom plastic fabrication, HDPE pipe welding and installation, repairs and maintenance services to industrial clients throughout the Perth metropolitan area, with occasional regional and shutdown work. We are a small, experienced team, so this role offers the opportunity to be genuinely involved in projects from the initial customer enquiry through to fabrication and delivery.
