Mid-Level AI Application Developer

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Mid-Level AI Application Developer to design, develop and support an AI-driven software platform. This is a hands-on development role for someone who is comfortable taking ownership of defined workstreams and progressing tasks independently. The successful candidate will also need to communicate clearly, collaborate with internal stakeholders and engage with external specialists or technology partners when required. The role will involve building practical, secure and maintainable applications that use artificial intelligence to improve business processes, analyse information and support operational decision-making. This is not a research-only role. We are looking for someone who can turn requirements and concepts into working solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and maintain AI-enabled applications and supporting services.

• Integrate large language models and AI services, including Azure OpenAI, OpenAI or comparable platforms.

• Develop workflows that use prompt engineering, structured outputs, retrieval-augmented generation and organisational information.

• Build and maintain integrations with business systems, databases, APIs and third-party services.

• Develop solutions within the Microsoft technology ecosystem, which may include Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse, SharePoint, Azure and Microsoft 365.

• Create secure APIs and services for communication between applications and data sources.

• Translate business and operational requirements into practical technical solutions.

• Independently investigate technical issues, identify options and recommend an appropriate path forward.

• Produce clean, maintainable and appropriately documented code.

• Use source control, development environments and deployment pipelines to manage application changes.

About you

• Demonstrated commercial software development experience, with examples of applications or platforms you have personally helped deliver.

• Practical experience incorporating AI or machine-learning services into a working application.

• Experience working with large language models through APIs, rather than only using consumer AI tools.

• A sound understanding of prompt design, structured model responses, grounding, data retrieval and AI output validation.

• Experience designing and consuming REST APIs.

• Experience integrating applications with databases, services or third-party platforms.

• Proficiency in at least one modern development language, preferably C#, Python, JavaScript or TypeScript.

• Experience with cloud-based development, preferably within Microsoft Azure.

• Experience using Git or a comparable source-control platform.

• An understanding of development, testing, deployment and release-management practices.
