Details: The Office of the Legislative Assembly is seeking an experienced and highly respected parliamentary leader to join its senior leadership team as Deputy Clerk and Serjeant-at-Arms.
This is a pivotal role at the heart of the Assembly, providing strategic leadership across chamber and committee support, Hansard and library services, while providing authoritative advice on parliamentary law, practice, procedure and the Standing Orders. The Deputy Clerk also performs the important roles of Clerk-at-the-Table, Secretary to the Standing Committee on Justice and Community Safety and Acting Clerk when required.
As Serjeant-at-Arms, you will also undertake this long-established and high-profile parliamentary role including carrying the Mace at the commencement and conclusion of sitting days.
We are looking for an accomplished leader with extensive parliamentary and executive management experience who can operate with confidence in a complex, high-profile and politically sensitive environment. You will bring sound judgement, strategic insight and a strong understanding of parliamentary operations, together with exceptional communication, influencing and relationship-building skills.
You will be a trusted and impartial adviser, recognised for your integrity, discretion and ethical leadership. You will have the ability to navigate complex political and administrative environments, build confidence with Members and stakeholders, and lead and develop a high-performing team.
This is a unique opportunity to make a significant contribution to the effective functioning of the ACT Legislative Assembly and to the development of its parliamentary practice and capability.
All ACTPS Senior Executive Service members are required to exercise the functions of their position in accordance with the closing the gap principle ACT Closing the Gap Implementation Plan - ACT Government Transparency Portal
Remuneration: The position attracts a remuneration package ranging from $244,551 - $252,081 depending on current superannuation arrangements of the successful applicant. This includes a cash component of $215,156.
Contract: The successful applicant will be engaged under a performance-based long-term contract for a period of up to five years. Prospective applicants should be aware that long-term engagements are tabled in the ACT Legislative Assembly.
