About the role
The Position
Austin Health seeks to appoint an outstanding senior clinician as Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO). This important leadership role provides medical leadership across the organisation’s digital health agenda, supporting the integration of technology, clinical informatics and electronic medical records to improve patient care, clinician experience and organisational performance. Working closely with the Chief Medical Officer and Chief Information and Services Officer, the CMIO will help shape and deliver Austin Health’s digital transformation priorities while ensuring clinical governance, patient safety and quality remain at the centre of all technology and informatics initiatives.
Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer, the CMIO provides leadership and engagement across the medical and broader clinical workforce in relation to clinical informatics, health information systems and the electronic medical record. Working in partnership with the Chief Nursing Information Officer, Chief Allied Health Informatics Officer, Chief Pharmacy Informatics Officer, EMR and ICT Services teams, the role contributes to the implementation of the Austin Health Digital Transformation Plan and broader Digital Health Strategy. The position operates across clinical, operational and executive forums and plays a key role in strengthening clinician engagement, supporting system adoption, influencing organisational strategy and ensuring technology solutions meet the needs of patients, clinicians and services.
The successful candidate will be an experienced senior medical practitioner with a demonstrated track record of leading large‑scale change and digital transformation within a complex healthcare environment. They will bring expertise in clinical informatics, electronic medical records and system improvement, together with the credibility to influence clinicians, executives and multidisciplinary stakeholders. Collaborative, innovative and highly engaging, the appointee will combine strategic thinking with practical implementation skills and play a critical role in advancing the use of technology, data and informatics to support exceptional patient outcomes and high‑quality care.
