Payroll Officer – 6 Month Fixed Term Contract

About the Role

We’re looking for a Payroll Officer to join our Finance team and help deliver our weekly payroll. This is a full-time, 6-month fixed-term contract based in our Waterloo office, working on site five days a week.

Payroll processing is handled by an external provider, so your focus is the accuracy of each weekly cycle. You will prepare and check payroll inputs, review the draft pay run, resolve any discrepancies and authorise the release of payment files. Payroll sits as a standalone function, with the Finance team close at hand for escalations and support.

What You Will Be Doing

• Prepare and verify weekly payroll inputs, including timesheets, allowances, deductions and pay changes
• Maintain employee records covering new starters, changes and terminations
• Review draft pay runs, investigate variances and authorise the release of payment files
• Liaise with the external payroll provider on adjustments and corrections
• Manage payroll and leave queries via the shared payroll inbox
• Prepare weekly and month-end payroll reporting, reconciliations and general ledger postings
• Maintain accurate, audit-ready payroll records
• Support payroll compliance, including Award interpretation, PAYG withholding, superannuation guarantee and STP Phase 2 reporting

What We’re Looking For

• Prior payroll experience, ideally in a weekly or high-frequency cycle
• Working knowledge of Australian payroll tax obligations, including PAYG withholding, superannuation, STP and payroll tax
• Understanding of the tax treatment of terminations, ETPs, allowances and leave loading
• Experience with Employment Hero (or Employment Hero Payroll highly regarded
• Working knowledge of the General Retail Industry Award, including penalty rates, overtime and allowances
• Strong attention to detail and confident working to weekly deadlines
• Solid Excel skills, including lookups and pivot tables
• Available for the full 6-month term, on site five days per week
