Dental & Sterilisation Assistant - Full Time

About the role

Casey Dentists is seeking a dedicated Dental & Sterilisation Assistant to join our team in Townsville. This is a full-time position based at our Townsville QLD clinic. As a Dental & Sterilisation Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting our dental professionals and ensuring the smooth operation of our practice. You will be responsible for maintaining the highest standards of sterilisation and infection control whilst assisting dentists during patient treatments. This position is essential to delivering excellent patient care and maintaining a safe, hygienic clinical environment.

Key responsibilities

• Sterilising and preparing all dental instruments and equipment according to strict infection control protocols

• Maintaining and restocking surgical trays and operatory areas to ensure efficiency and readiness for patient appointments

• Assisting dentists during clinical procedures by passing instruments, maintaining visibility of the operating field, and providing chairside support

• Managing patient records and scheduling appointments in a timely and professional manner

• Maintaining a clean and organised dental surgery, including daily cleaning and disinfection of operatories and common areas

• Handling sterilisation equipment operation and monitoring autoclave cycles to ensure compliance with safety standards

• Supporting patients during treatments by providing reassurance and explanations of procedures

• Ordering and managing dental supplies and inventory as required

• Following all workplace health and safety regulations and contributing to a safe clinical environment

What we're looking for

• A current or developing knowledge of dental procedures and clinical terminology

• Experience in sterilisation and infection control protocols, or willingness to undertake relevant training

• Strong attention to detail with an ability to follow strict procedural guidelines

• Excellent organisational and time management skills

• Professional communication skills with both team members and patients

• Physical ability to stand for extended periods and perform manual tasks

• A proactive approach to workplace health and safety

• Reliability and commitment to maintaining high standards of hygiene

• Relevant qualifications such as a Certificate in Dental Assisting or similar would be advantageous

• First Aid certification or willingness to obtain it
