Tempest Legal
About the role
Tempest Legal is a young, but rapidly growing, law firm practising in the areas of child protection; crime; family law; and domestic & family violence. We first opened in 2021, initially in Beenleigh, and have since expanded into the Gold Coast and Ipswich areas as well. We don't have a website (it's still 'coming soon'), but we do have a fabulous team, a strong reputation, and a whole lot of work to keep us busy. What we need now is... more of us!
The Role
We are ideally looking for someone with a minimum of 6 months PAE to join our Criminal Law and/or Child Protection teams in our Beenleigh office on a full-time basis. Our new team member will need to be able to manage their own file load, which may include any combination of matters across our key practice areas.
The role of newest-team-member comes with the opportunity for growth, with close mentoring under the supervision of the Principal Solicitor and our Senior Solicitors if you're someone who needs those kinds of things; or near-complete autonomy in managing your own files, workload, and client relationships if you are not.
Key responsibilities
Managing your own file load, including Legally Aided and privately funded matters;
Appearing in court on a daily basis in various jurisdictions;
Providing legal advice and legal services in a professional and accurate manner;
Conducting client conferences and taking detailed instructions;
Providing duty lawyer services in child protection, criminal law, and/or domestic & family violence;
Maintaining client communication and relationships; and
Legal research, submission writing, and billing.
We have a charming and efficient legal support team, but you may need to cover a bit of your own administrative work such as drafting client letters, lodging Legal Aid applications, and filing court documents, at least until you're up to full speed.
About you
Everyone at Tempest Legal is hardworking, honest, quick to learn, and thrives in a close-knit team environment. We are all excellent lawyers, and we have variable levels of lactose and/or gluten tolerance so are also excellent organisers of a dietary-needs-friendly afternoon tea.
We will be particularly interested in adding you to our team if you are an admitted legal practitioner who has:
Experience and/or education in any flavour of legal practice that involves children and their families;
Strong attention to detail and a focus on always providing high-quality client care;
Self-motivation and an ability to work in a collaborative environment;
Duty lawyer accreditation, or eligibility for immediate accreditation, in any of our practice areas;
The ability to establish your own client base (with mentoring), or a pre-existing client base;
A working understanding of Legal Aid processes and policies;
Experience with Clio practice management software (although this is not essential as long as you have some reasonable computer-ing ability);
Current QLD drivers licence and your own vehicle, as some travel will be required; and
A current Blue Card or eligibility to immediately obtain one.
In return, we offer a fun and inclusive - but consistently busy! - workplace with ample opportunity to develop skills and knowledge that meet your interests. We especially welcome applications from candidates with experience or a keen interest in the niche practice area of child protection; candidates who already hold duty lawyer accreditation in criminal, youth justice, or child protection law; and candidates who hold the record in one or more Escape Rooms within driving distance of our office.
We are happy to accept applications via seek; or by direct email, including resume and cover letter, to our Principal Solicitor at ****@tempestlegal.com.au. Please make sure to address the criteria above, with particular emphasis on your experience and/or interest in our main practice areas.
[If you don't *quite* meet our criteria above, but have a passion for people-centred legal practice/think you might meet our energy/want to see if your baking skills match our eating-baked-goods skills, please reach out to the same email address. We love hearing from people who love legal stuff, and we are always happy to talk to people who will soon be our kind of people but aren't quite there yet.]
