Company Description Barefoot Therapists is a multidisciplinary practice offering Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology, Counselling, Therapeutic Teaching, Dietetics, and Animal & Equine-Assisted Therapy, with a strong team-based approach to supporting children and teenagers.
The practice is trauma-aware, family-focused, and neurodiversity affirming, creating an inclusive environment for clients and their support networks.
Services are provided from birth through the teen years and into the transition to adulthood, from a centre in Rosebud and a farm in Boneo. Indoor, outdoor, and nature-based programs are tailored to each child’s needs, with animal-assisted and outdoor sessions supporting engagement and positive outcomes, particularly for anxiety.
Barefoot Therapists acknowledges and respects the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia and is located on the traditional lands of the Boon Wurrung / Bunurong people of the Kulin Nation.
Role Description This is a full-time or part time, on-site Occupational Therapist role based at the Barefoot Therapists farm in Boneo, VIC. The Occupational Therapist will provide assessment and intervention for children and teenagers, supporting functional skills in areas such as self-care, motor skills, sensory processing, emotional regulation, and participation in daily activities.
Day-to-day tasks include conducting client assessments, developing individualised and group therapy plans, delivering sessions in indoor, outdoor, and farm-based settings if desired.
Collaborating with the multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated care is necessary for many clients. The role involves communicating regularly with families and caregivers, documenting progress, contributing to goal-setting, and participating in case discussions and team meetings.
The Occupational Therapist can also help design and facilitate programs that integrate nature, farm-based and animal-assisted therapy if this is an area of interest.
Qualifications Candidates should possess strong skills and qualifications in Occupational Therapy, including assessment, intervention planning, and evidence-based practice.Candidates should possess relevant knowledge in Paediatrics, Child or Adult Mental Health, with experience supporting children, teenagers, and young people transitioning to adulthood, as well as adult clients if desired.Candidates should possess effective Communication skills to collaborate with families, caregivers, and a multidisciplinary team, and to document clinical findings clearly.Candidates should possess a solid understanding of approaches and techniques to support functional outcomes, participation, and quality of life.Candidates should possess foundational knowledge related to child development, mental health, and/or physical health considerations in therapeutic contexts.Relevant tertiary qualifications in Occupational Therapy and current registration or eligibility for registration with the appropriate professional body.Experience or interest in nature-based, outdoor, and animal-assisted therapy, and in working within a trauma-aware and neurodiversity affirming framework.Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment, strong problem-solving skills, and a commitment to continuous professional development.
