The Opportunity
We are seeking a Scientist – Contaminated Land to join our Oceans & Environment team in Perth.
This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career environmental scientist who has some experience in contaminated land, environmental site assessment or a related area and is looking to continue developing their technical and consulting capability.
Working alongside experienced contaminated land and environmental professionals, you will contribute to a range of projects involving the investigation, assessment and management of contaminated sites.
You will have the opportunity to build your experience across field investigations, environmental sampling, data interpretation and technical reporting while learning from senior specialists with extensive experience in contaminated land assessment, remediation and environmental risk.
As your experience develops, you will be given increasing autonomy, direct client exposure and opportunities to manage smaller projects.
What You'll Be Involved In
Your responsibilities will include:
Undertaking contaminated land and environmental site investigationsPlanning and participating in fieldwork, site inspections and environmental sampling programsCollecting, managing, analysing and interpreting environmental dataSupporting preliminary and detailed site investigationsContributing to the assessment of contamination and environmental risksAssisting with remediation and site management projectsPreparing clear, accurate and high-quality technical reports and environmental adviceWorking with senior technical specialists on complex contaminated land projectsSupporting projects involving a range of contaminants which may include hydrocarbons, heavy metals, PFAS, persistent organic pollutants and asbestosLiaising with laboratories, contractors, clients and other project stakeholdersPreparing scopes of work and project costings under the guidance of senior team membersManaging discrete or smaller projects as your capability and experience developMonitoring project quality, risks, budgets and timelinesWorking collaboratively across multidisciplinary project teamsMaintaining high standards of health, safety and environmental compliance in both field and office-based activities
About You
We are looking for someone who is technically curious, practical and keen to build a career in contaminated land and environmental consulting.
You Will Ideally Bring
A tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Geology, Chemistry or another relevant disciplineRelevant experience in contaminated land, environmental consulting, site investigation or a related fieldExperience undertaking environmental fieldwork, site investigations or samplingAn understanding of contaminated land assessment principles and environmental dataStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsGood technical report writing skills and attention to detailThe ability to confidently work in the field as well as contribute to technical and reporting activities in the officeStrong communication and interpersonal skillsA collaborative approach and willingness to learn from experienced technical specialistsThe ability to work independently while knowing when to seek technical guidanceAn understanding of project delivery including quality, safety, time and budget considerationsA commitment to ongoing professional and technical development
